Side Story 41-1
Years later
I was seated in my study when Abel suddenly walked in, our son toddling closely behind him on his short legs. He had grown very attached to his father, and ever since he started walking, he refused
to let anyone carry him.
“Well, look at my babies,” I called out fondly.
Our son immediately ran into my arms, while Abel stood there with a wide smile spread across his
face.
“I have a surprise for you, Clara,” Abel said. “Someone reached out to me. I think they might know
who your real parents are.”
The moment those words left his mouth, my breathing turned uneven with excitement. After all these years of searching, it finally felt like something was happening. I was overwhelmed with
happiness.
“H-how?” I tried to ask, barely able to form the word.
Abel only smiled. “Someone contacted me, Clara, but we need to be careful. She says her name is
Bella Maxwell, from the Waterford Pack.”
I raised an eyebrow.
He sat down across from me, still smiling. “It appears your real parents are from the northern
region.”
“That far?” I asked, my eyes widening. Did they hate me so much that they sent me here all the way
from there?
I didn’t want any emotional connection with them if I eventually met them. All I wanted was an
explanation. I needed to know why they did what they did-why they sent me away as though I
meant nothing to them.
“Give me her contact,” I said.
Abel nodded.
When I spoke directly with Bella, what she showed me made it clear she wasn’t lying. The woman
who had given me away was named Abigail, and the one who bore me was Aira, her niece.
I needed to understand why she did it.

So I confronted Abel. “I want to go there alone.”
Clai
He immediately rejected the idea-it showed clearly on his face. “No, Clara. I know how badly you want answers, but let me go with you.”
I shook my head. “There’s no need, Abel. It’s not like I want an emotional bond with them. Once
get the closure I need, I’ll come back right away.”
Even so, he still sent guards to follow me-from a distance.
I met Bella Maxwell at the location she specified. One look at her told me everything-I could tell
she was spoiled. Still, I followed her wherever she led me.
That evening, she took me to a cathedral. There was clearly a celebration happening, but I didn’t
think much of it, as long as she took me to Aira-my mother.
She left first, promising to return for me. I waited, even though I hated every second of it. When she
finally came back, I stepped out of the car, and she acted as though I was no longer her concern. She introduced me to a man-the one who was my biological mother’s husband.
