Book 2:Chapter 3-2
The rest halted with him.
Slowly, the man turned in our direction-and my breath caught painfully in my throat.
It was the CEO.
Clair
The memory of that strange day flooded back instantly. I was about to look away when I noticed
his gaze shift-from my face… down to my arm.
I followed his line of sight.
Nothing was there. Just Eliot holding onto me.
When I looked back at the CEO again, his eyes were wide, dark, intense-like he’d just caught me doing something terribly wrong. Almost like a boyfriend who caught his lover with another man.
“Um…” Eliot whispered, leaning closer. “Why is the boss looking at you like that?”
I honestly didn’t have an answer.
People were starting to notice now, heads turning, whispers beginning-but suddenly, as if he snapped back to himself, the CEO turned sharply and walked away. His steps were faster, heavier this time, his men quickly following behind him.
I swallowed hard.
“Well, that was odd,” Eliot muttered.
I turned to him. “Is the CEO always like that?”
He shook his head slowly. “No. He’s not.”
We resumed walking.
“Are you sure you don’t know him from before?” Eliot asked.
“No,” I said quickly. “But something weird happened the day I was hired.”
He nodded, urging me to continue.
“He stormed out, stared at me, and called me human-in this really deep voice.”
Eliot raised an eyebrow. “Human? Like… aren’t we all?”
I chuckled weakly, though the truth was, that moment still wouldn’t leave my mind.
After lunch, we returned to the office. Faye was already there. Without even looking at me, she

spoke flatly while arranging a stack of papers.
“Idara, Mrs. Lucy wants you in her office. Now.”
I glanced at Eliot who mouthed the words good luck.
I nodded and stepped out.

By the time I reached Mrs. Lucy’s door, before I could even knock, her voice called out, “Come in.”
It startled me. How did she know I was there? Maybe it’s because she’d been expecting me.
I opened the door, walked in slowly, and shut it behind me, my hands clasped tightly together.
“Yes, ma’am. You called,” I said.
She set aside whatever she was doing and looked directly at me.
“It came to my attention that you insulted your colleague. May I know why?”
I swallowed hard, nerves tightening my chest.
“She spoke badly about my weight,” I said quietly. “She said I didn’t need more food, ma’am. I got…”
I trailed off, swallowing again. “I got a little angry and said something out of place.” I said lowering my head a bit.
She stood up abruptly.
I jerked up a bit as I lifted my head,my heart beating faster than normal, her eyes scanning me slowly, carefully. She stopped right in front of me.
“You should have more confidence, Mrs. Williams,” she said firmly. “You’ll need it-not just here in the office, but in your personal life as well.”
I nodded quickly.
She smiled then-something I hadn’t seen her do before.
“There will be many problems coming your way in the future. Your mouth will save you… and so will
your posture.”
She turned and returned to her seat.
“I understand why you reacted the way you did,” she continued, adjusting her glasses. “But we do
not exchange insults here. When she insulted you, you should have come to me. You didn’t.”
I was really trembling now.
“So,” she said, leaning forward with her elbows on the table, “you will both be punished.”

Book 2 Chapter 3-2 My eyes widened.
“You’ll work overtime.”
I didn’t even realize when I sighed in relief. At least it wasn’t worse than what I thought.
“Thank you, ma’am,” I said hurriedly and she nodded her head softly “You may leave.” she said.
I turned toward the door-but then she spoke again.
Clair
“Wait.” and I stopped right in my tracks. What does she want to say now, I said inwardly and turned
back slowly with my hand still on the doorknob.
“Please,” she added calmly, “refrain from being too close with other men.”
I frowned slightly, confused, but nodded anyway.
I just needed to get the hell out of her office, I opened the door in haste and stepped out, immediately I closed the door behind me I breathed out and placed my hand on my chest. I never
want to do that again.
As I walked away, one question echoed loudly in my mind.
What did she mean by that?
By other men? I thought as I walked back toward my office. It wasn’t like I was married or even dating anyone. So what exactly did she mean by that?
I was still trying to make sense of it when a male voice suddenly stopped me.
“Miss Williams.”
I turned around.
A man dressed in black stood a few steps behind me. His suit looked expensive and for a second, I
just stood in awe from how incredibly handsome he looks. Why did every man in this company
