Book 2:Chapter 21-1
Julio/Helio
When we got home, Violet walked straight up to me. I couldn’t decipher the expression on her face
as she spoke.
“Why did you have to tell my son that you’re not his father?” she asked, completely ignoring the fact that I had just awakened the Alpha power-as though she had already known, as though it
wasn’t surprising at all.
“It was the right thing to do, Violet,” I replied, loosening my tie with a tug. “One way or another, he was bound to find out. Telling him now was better.”
I let out a long breath. Exhaustion crept through me, heavy and insistent, a dull ache settling into
bones. Drawing out that much power had taken more from me than I expected.

I needed to sleep-before I collapsed.
“Still, you should have discussed it with me first,” she pressed.
I hissed quietly under my breath. “We’ll talk about this later,” I said, lowering my voice when I noticed Julian watching us closely, his eyes fixed on every movement.
“I’ll be back later,” I told him.
“Okay,” he replied with a nod.
I spared Violet one last look before turning toward the stairs.
Danae, who had remained silent the entire time, followed me as I headed to my room.
The moment we stepped inside, she clapped her hands together. “Seriously, Helio-you didn’t think to tell me you’d awakened the power?” she said, moving closer. Then she frowned. “You’re sweating, profusely.”
I nodded in response.
I felt like I was going to die. Worse than that, my body was burning from the inside out-so hot it felt unbearable. I needed something cold, needed it immediately, I needed to sink myself into freezing water.
“I’ll just soak myself,” I muttered, already undoing my tie. I pulled off my coat and tossed it aside, my movements hurried and restless.
“How does your body feel?” Danae asked.

Book 2 Chapter 21 1
“Like it’s on fire,” I replied.

She lifted her hand and pressed it gently to my forehead as I unbuttoned my shirt. “You’re burning
up, Helio. The power must have taken a serious toll on you,” she said, then quickly turned toward
the bathroom. “I’ll draw you a cold bath.”
She rushed inside while I stripped off the rest of my clothes.
Beyond the heat, my fangs throbbed painfully, and my head pounded as though my thoughts were
tangled and scattered, refusing to settle.
Bare, I stepped into the bathroom. Water was already rushing from the faucet into the bathtub. Danae stepped aside as I lowered myself into it, the cold biting against my skin as I exhaled
deeply.
“I feel the urge to bite,” I told her, staring at her steadily.
Her eyes widened for a brief second before her expression smoothed over, as if she understood exactly what was happening. “How strong is it?” she asked.
“Very strong,” I answered-and as I spoke, my fangs pushed past my teeth.
