“Don’t worry,” he murmured against my skin. “I wasn’t planning on that.”

Then he added, voice low and steady:

“I had a vasectomy the moment I knew you were my mate.”

I froze completely.

“You did what?” I asked the second the words left his mouth.

He smiled softly down at me, then leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to my lips.

“There’s already an heir to take over from me,” he said quietly.

I knew right away he meant his son.

“And I can’t put you in jeopardy by giving you my child,” he continued, voice dropping lower. “You’re

human. It might kill you.”

He stopped kissing me then, pulling back just enough to look straight into my eyes. His expression

turned dead serious.

“I won’t take that chance. Not if it means putting your life in danger, I don’t want to lose you”

His gaze never wavered.

“So Idara… don’t be afraid. I’ll never do anything to hurt you. I promise.”

With that, he started moving inside me again-slow at first, then deeper, steadier.

I melted completely into him.

We made love for more than ten minutes longer until finally he came, teeth clenched hard, a low groan rumbling from his chest as he spilled inside me.

I was too exhausted to even notice anything around us anymore. I don’t think I could ever keep up with his stamina. Right now I felt so drained I could barely breathe, like I might actually pass out

and die.

Before I knew it, sleep pulled me under, his strong arms wrapped tight around me, holding me

close.

“My niece is so worried, Mario,” I said, tipping back the tequila and downing it in one burning gulp.

If I said I wasn’t frightened when that boy finally awakened his power, I’d be lying.

That stubborn bastard really had it in him all along. He always acted like he was following our

rules, playing the good little alpha heir, but I’d seen the defiance flickering in his eyes for years.

Now that he’d finally awakened it, he wouldn’t bend to our every whim anymore. And the nerve-he

even had the guts to threaten us.

“I don’t know, Calisto,” Mario muttered, fear still carved deep into his face. “The power in that lad…

it was immense. I really thought he was going to kill me.”

I rolled my eyes. I’d always known Mario was soft, but seriously, get a grip..

“Whatever,” I snapped. “Our plans move forward. We killed his brother-the late alpha-so taking

him out should be simple.”

He’d only just awakened the power. He hadn’t mastered it yet. We had to act now, before he grew strong enough that we could no longer control him.

My family belongs at the very top of this pack. We deserve to rule it all, to have our name feared and respected across the entire continent.

That’s why, when Eleanor set her sights on Julio, I knew there was an opportunity. I helped her

climb right into his bed, right into position.

But the fool chose his true mate to be his Luna instead of my niece. He turned Eleanor into nothing more than his side piece-his mistress. That stupid man.

When he died, I finally thought everything would fall into place. All my plans would come together.

But now Helio refuses to marry Eleanor, because he is mated.

No. I won’t let it happen.

Thank the goddess Helio’s mate is human. Humans are fragile-and can die easily. Getting her out of the picture won’t be hard at all.

A slow smile spread across my face. Yes… it would be easy to just kill her.

“I want to know everything about this mate of his,” I told Mario. “Get me every detail-who she is, where she’s from, everything.”

He nodded quickly. “As you wish.”

No one-no one-is going to ruin the plans I’ve spent years building for the Chesters.

Not after the long grudge I’ve carried against that family.
