Book 2:Chapter 30-1

Heat flooded my cheeks in an instant, embarrassment burning bright. No-he couldn’t possibly mean to do this here, in the very room that held every fragile memory of his childhood. I wasn’t about to tarnish it, to leave any part of myself on these walls that had known only him.

“No,” I managed to whisper, the word trembling.

But before I could finish, his mouth crashed against mine, fierce and hungry, and every scrap of rational thought dissolved. He kissed me like he was starving, devouring my lips with a need that stole the air from my lungs.

His hands found my waist, firm and possessive, while the other slid to the back of my head, fingers threading through my hair to hold me exactly where he wanted me. His tongue swept against mine, searching, tasting, claiming, and I met him with the same desperate hunger, my body answering before my mind could catch up.

When he finally pulled back, both of us breathing hard, he didn’t let me go. Instead, he trailed slow, burning kisses down the column of my throat, lips brushing the sensitive skin there.

“We should stay here tonight,” he whispered against my neck, voice rough and low, sending shivers racing across my skin.

I couldn’t find words. All I could do was nod, dazed and trembling.

The next thing I knew, his arms slid beneath me and he lifted me effortlessly off the floor, cradling me against his chest as if I weighed nothing at all, as he walked with me to the bed.

I took the picture, and the moment my eyes landed on her face, a slow, delighted smile curled my lips. Then laughter-sharp, incredulous-burst out of me before I could stop it.

So this was the one? This lumbering, plain, soft-bellied creature was Helio’s fated mate? The woman he spoke of in reverent tones, as if she were some rare, exquisite beauty carved from

moonlight?

The absurdity of it sent another wave of laughter through me. She wasn’t just ordinary-she was ugly, weak, and fat. A nobody. A joke.

Killing her would be almost laughably easy. No need for elaborate schemes or second thoughts.

She was no threat at all.

I set the photograph down on the table with deliberate calm and lifted my wine glass, taking a

slow, satisfied sip.

“And my son?” I asked, glancing at the maid without turning my head.

She bowed lower, voice soft. “He is asleep, my lady.”

I nodded once. “Good.”

Everything was falling into place.

First, I would give the girl a chance-a single, generous opportunity to walk away from Helio and never look back. If she refused… Well, then I would have no choice but to remove her myself.

Permanently.

My son will be the next Alpha of this pack. Whether Helio likes it or not. Whether the elders like it or

not. Whether fate itself likes it or not.

Since I could never claim the man I loved for myself, I would make sure my son claimed everything
