The Alpha's Chubby Obsession. novel Chapter 256

Book 2:Chapter 32-2

“W

“I was really worried something had happened to you,” he said, walking toward me. “Are you okay?”

His brows knitted together with concern.

“Y-yeah, I’m fine. Is something wrong?”

He glanced over at Faye, who seemed only mildly interested. “Not really,” he replied, “but some official came by earlier asking questions about you.”

He hesitated before continuing. “So we thought maybe you were in some kind of trouble.”

Officials asking questions about me? What for?

“Questions like…?” I prompted.

He let out a small sigh and scratched the back of his head. “Well, we couldn’t tell them much since

we don’t really know you that well. But they were digging into personal stuff-who you are, things

like that.”

I nodded slowly, taking it in.

I’d have to tell Helio about this. Or maybe he already knows… though I doubt it. Why would anyone go digging into my personal life like that?

Even if I’m mated to their alpha, they have no right to investigate me behind my back.

My phone suddenly buzzed in my purse. I fished it out, glanced at the screen, and my stomach dropped-it was Mom. Damn it, I’d completely forgotten to call her.

I really am the worst daughter sometimes.

“Excuse me,” I muttered to Eliot as I turned abruptly to leave the office. Once outside I took a deep

sigh and answered as I pressed the phone to my ear. “Hey Mom, I’m so sorry I didn’t call earlier.”

I braced myself for the scolding that was surely coming.

But instead, she just said softly, “It’s okay.”

I let out a long, relieved breath.

“He already told you we spoke yesterday, didn’t he?” she asked.

I made a small humming sound in confirmation.

“Right now, Idara, I think we have a much bigger problem,” she continued, her tone shifting.

My brow furrowed. “Like what?”

Book 2 Chapter 32-2

Was it those officials again?

“A man showed up here today. He said he needed to see you.”

Aman? “Mom, please just tell me-who is he?”

She went quiet for several long seconds, long enough that my pulse started racing.

Finally, she answered. “He said his name is Jax.”

The world tilted. Jax? My entire body went rigid.

“And… he was Marilyn’s fiancé,” she added quietly.

I swallowed thickly. How the hell did Jax know where I lived? And why would he come looking for

me now?

Did Marilyn send him? No-that didn’t make sense. They weren’t together anymore. But then what did he want? A dozen frantic thoughts crashed through my head at once.

“I’ll come home as soon as I get off work,” I started to say.

She cut me off immediately. “No, Idara. Don’t come home yet. I’m afraid this place isn’t safe for you

anymore.”

I blinked rapidly, stunned. “What are you saying?”

“You’re mated to Alpha Julio now, Idara. Being bonded to a werewolf… it’s dangerous. I already spoke to your husband about this. He can’t protect you properly if you’re here. I need you to

understand that.”

Helio hadn’t mentioned any of this to me. He must have wanted Mom to be the one to tell me

herself.

The thought of not being able to go home to Mom hit hard. If Jax had tracked me down so easily, it wouldn’t take much for Marilyn to do the same. Everything was crashing in at once-too fast, too much-leaving me no room to even catch my breath.

“So staying with him, Idara, is what’s safest for you right now,” she finished gently.

Deep down, I knew she was right.

Just then, someone called out my name.
