By then, Idara’s fear had finally ebbed away. Danae slipped back into the room and took her seat.
“We exhumed Alpha Julio’s body and performed a full autopsy,” I announced.
Every elder sat up straighter, instantly alert.
“We discovered he didn’t simply die during sex. Your former Alpha was murdered-slowly
poisoned over time.”
Gasps rippled through the council as Danae began passing out copies of the autopsy report.
“And I can’t think of two people better positioned to do it than Calisto and his precious niece.”
Calisto threw his head back and burst into loud, mocking laughter, clutching his stomach.
“You have no evidence!” he wheezed between laughs. “This is all nonsense and wild speculation!”
But Eleanor had gone deathly pale.
“Don’t be so sure,” I said, my voice calm but cutting. “Now that the power is flowing through my bones, getting the information I need has become… effortless. You should have covered your
tracks better, Calisto.”
The laughter died instantly from his face. He clenched his jaw so tightly I could see the muscle ticking with rage. He still believed I was bluffing. He was wrong.
Before I met Jax yesterday, I had made one quick stop, a final piece of my investigation. Now I held every damning piece of evidence in my possession.

When I first stepped in as substitute Alpha and met her, I recognized her immediately as the girl I had saved years ago. But something had felt off. Her stance, the look in her eyes… they weren’t the eyes of the frightened girl I had rescued that night..
And I was right.
She looked at me the same way everyone else did, like something disposable, something to be

When I later discovered she was my brother’s mistress, and that she had gone around telling the
pack that Julio had saved her, everything clicked. She had mistaken him for me.
It wasn’t a secret that Eleanor and Julio had been involved before he found Violet and got mated.
Everyone assumed it ended the moment he married his true mate.
They were wrong.
It never stopped.
Danae was the one who confirmed it for me. Soon after, whispers had begun circulating through
the pack, but no one dared speak them aloud. Not even Violet, his wife, who chose to play
ignorant.
But that’s not why I’m here today.
I was here to right the wrongs that had festered in this pack for years. I was here to bring
restoration. And most importantly, I was here to protect my mate.
Once I discovered my mate was human, I knew the burden would fall heavily on me. I knew I would have to work tirelessly, sacrificing sleep and pushing myself harder than ever, because this world was simply too much for any human to handle on her own. I had to be strong enough for both of
