I watched as the little boy whose name I now presume is Franklin, turned around with fear in his eyes to look at Samuel who still had his phone in his hand as he walked into the room and he didn’t look happy at all.

His already dark eyes were filled with anger and for some reason he had two of the top buttons of his shirt undone. If he wasn’t such a jerk, I might actually be attracted to him.

Franklin had on his puppy eyes and he smiled which brought out his dimple and then he said a word I wasn’t expecting to come ot of his mouth. “Daddy.”

I looked from Samuel back to Franklin. Daddy? Alpha Bowers is his father? I thought he only had Sophia and Franklin looks to be around the same age as Sophia so I’m guessing that they’re twins. What are the odds?

The way Samuel glared at his son could make a grown man shake in his boots, but I have to give it to the little boy, he stood his ground and why the hell was he so angry? Was it because of what he said? I mean he’s just a little boy, he didn’t mean anything by it and I actually found it

to be cute.

“What the hell is going on in that little brain of yours Franklin? What are you thinking? You taking her as your woman? Where did you even come up with something like that? What made you think that you could say

say something like that to her?” Samuel asks his son.

I watched the interaction between father and son and it was clear that Franklin was scared of his father and you woukd think that a kid of his age would run away crying but again the little boy suprised me, he puffed out his chest and he defended himself. “Daddy, I like her and I want her to stay.” He says to his father and I can see thw shock on Samuel’s face even though he does his best to hide it.

“Do you even understand the words that are coming out of your mouth? Do you know what they mean?” Samuel asks Franklin.

“Of course, I do!” Franklin touched his earlobes, his cheeks turning red. “Daddy, you can’t be acting like this. I’m already all grown up, so I know that I have to be proactive in pursuing the woman I like.”

“Who taught you this?” Samuel asks his son as he shook his head like he could not believe what he was hearing, I on the other hand, I was doing my very best not to laugh.

“Um…” Franklin bent his head, it was clear whoever he learnt this from, he did not want to

“Franklin Bowers. Who. Taught. You. That?” It was clear that Samuel wasn’t going to let him go without getting an answer.

Franklin looked around frantically, like he was hoping for someone to save him. He finally looked back at his father and he let out a sigh. “It was Uncle Steven. I heard him saying this to another lady. That lady was really happy when she heard it. I thought that she will be happy too if I say this to her. Then, she’ll stay by my side and keep me company.” He says and I swear It’s just all so cute and I don’t know whether to laugh or to go give him a hug.

But it’s clear from the look on his face that Samuel doesn’t see it that way.

“Go back to your room. I have something to discuss with Ms. Edmund.” He glanced at Franklin nonchalantly as he spoke.

It wad clear that Franklin didn’t want to live the way he kept looking from me to his father. “It was nice to meet you Franklin and Monty too.” I tell him and that brings a smile to his face.

“It was nice to meet you too Ms. Natalie, come back soon ok.” He adds and then he runs out of the room before he gets another shout from his father.

But then he stops by mys side and he has a cute pout on his face and he mumbles under his breath so only I can hear him. “He wants you all to himself that’s why he wants me to go. But I won’t let him get away with it….”

“Franklin, what are you mumbling about?” Samuel asks him.

Instead of answering back, Franklin merely shook his head meekly. “Nothing daddy, I–I’m going back to my room.”

I turn around after watching Franklin leave, and find Samuel staring at me silently. The look in his eyes was unfathomable, sending a chill down my spine.

“Ms. Edmund, you seem like you’re adept at taking care of children?”

“Perhaps? I mean I am a mother.” I add.

I really didn’t consider myself an expert in childcare. I did my best to take care of my boys and I did not have any help, but I was very lucky with the fact that they were easy babies, they weren’t fussy and not that they are older, we’re like a well oiled machine, we take care of each other.

“Can you please follow me.” He says and then he starts walking again, not even waiting for my answer and just assuming that I’ll follow him, but at least this time he said please.

I followed him into a room that I assumed was his office. Inside, aside from typical office furniture, there was an entire row of tall bookshelves that was nearly five meters tall. At that height, it would only be possible to retrieve the books via a ladder. I couldn’t help but be stunned by the incredible sight I’ve always been a sucker for books.

The look in Samuel’s eyes was cold yet focused. “Ms. Edmund, I do have a deal that I need to discuss with you. I need you to treat a person for me.”

I pinched the space between her brows. I’ve been keeping my identity as a skilled doctor pretty well all along. How did this man here get to know about this identity of mine? And how much does he know about it? Could it be that he already knows my true appearance

under

my mask?

I decided to go along with him. “Alpha Bowers, you’ve looked into my background, so you should know that I’m a coroner, not a doctor. What I do is completely different.”

He stepped closer to me, his slanted eyes fixing on me the whole time.

For some reason, I felt like I was a newborn baby, naked as day, under his intense stare.

“Sophia has had aphasia ever since young. I’ve brought her to see countless doctors, and they all told me that her condition isn’t physical but psychological.” After a pause, he continued, “You’re the first person to make her speak, saying the word ‘Mommy“”

“I made her speak?” I ask him, I’m actually shocked.

“I don’t see the need for me to lie to you about this.” He glanced at me before saying frostily, “I only want you to help Sophia open up.”

Upon hearing that, I breathed a sigh of relief internally. Luckily, this isn’t about my cover getting blown.

“As long as you can heal Sophia’s condition, I will fulfill any wishes that you have.”

“There’s no need for that.” I shook my head and smiled.

“Humans‘ greed is immeasurable. I know that.” Samuel raised his eyebrows while he spoke, his voice filled with restraint and apathy. “What wish do you have that even the Bowers family is unable to give you?”

“I think you’re the greedy one here.” I rolled my eyes at him. “I meant what I said. I don’t need the Bowers family to satisfy any of my needs.”

“Alpha Bowers, I am willing to treat Sophia’s condition for nothing in return.”

“For nothing in return?” He asks like he can’t believe it.
