Knowing that I’ve already agreed to go with him, I go into the boys room to check in on them and I see that they are both asleep and as usual Xavier has his legs out of his blanket so I go over and cover him up.

I take out a sticky note and leave a message for them that I’m going to work and I’ll be back home in the morning. Then I go into my room and put on some warm clothes because the weather is chilly.

Just as I’m about to pick up my bag, my phone buzzes and it’s a message from Samuel saying that he’s outside. So I quickly grab my phone and my bag and head out because I don’t want the boys to see him.

I came out of my house and spotted the car parked under a street lamp, the car was black, sexy and sleek just like the owner.

He was leaning against the car as he waited for me and the yellow light under the street lamp, with the dark of the night made him look even more dangerous than he already was.

Before I could even reach him, I got that scent again, oak and it eneveloped me and I stopped in as I was hit with a memory from that night. “You’re mine.” the man growled in my ear.

And then all of a sudden I’m pulled out of the memory. Why does this keep happening to me anytime I’m around Samuel, I mean it has to mean something right? But what?

He was staring at his phone so thankfully he didn’t see what just happened, so I immediately school my face so he doesn’t know that something is wrong.

He has a frown on his face that reminds me so much of Xavier, he gets that same look on his face when he’s stuck on something or if someone makes him mad. Like earlier today when I found him outside the restaurant, he was really angry at the man he had a conversation with.

My shoe crunched on some gravel and then he finally looked up and noticed me, I looked back at him to gauge exactly what kind of mood he was in, because his moods lately have been giving me whiplash. He just looked up and fixed me with a stare and he had the same look in his eyes that he had at the restaurant.

I wasn’t even going to mention it, if he wanted to say something than we could talk, all I cared about right now was Franklin. “How is Franklin? I ask him.

“Not so good.” He tells me.

Biting my lips, my heart breaks, kids hate being sick. I do my best not to let tears well up in my eyes, I mean I haven’t even seen him yet and I’m already feeling this way.

He opened the passenger door for me, and I entered the car still worried.

On our way to the house, Samuel started to speak.

“You may not be able to go back home tonight,” he said with a smirk on his face.

“I know.” I tell him. What was with the smirk?

Upon hearing the question, I was dumbstruck. She cast a look at the man driving next to her. For someone who was really smart, he was acting really dumb, I mean he knows that I have kids and he’s failing to make the connection.

“I went to check on him before I left the house. He is already asleep. He won’t be bothered by it.” I tell him.

“You and him… Aren’t you sleeping together in the same room?” He asks because he still assumes that my sweetheart is a man.

“No, I’m used to sleeping alone.”

I glance over to him and he has a smile on his face. He’s happy at the fact that I sleep alone?

“Alpha Bowers, it seems like you are very concerned about my sweetheart.”

“Yes.” He snorted and glanced at her briefly. “If there is an opportunity, I would like to meet him.”

I could not find any fault in his statement, but I could sense the jealousy coming off him.

Is this… jealousy toward a love rival? But, it can’t be. My face is full of freckles, and even I’m not too fond of it. Could it be that Samuel can see through it and has noticed my inner beauty?

With both of us lost in our thoughts, we didn’t say anything.

Upon reaching the Bowers residence, I got down from the car and followed Samuel, into the house.

Gavin saw me and waved. “Ms. Edmund, it is fortunate that you are here. Why don’t you hurry upstairs and check on Mr. Franklin? He has an upset stomach and doesn’t want to see a doctor. He only wants to see you.”

My heart broke at those words and I looked at Samuel who was handing me a pair of slippers.

I quickly put on the indoor slippers but did not realize I had worn them incorrectly. Then, I went straight to the bedroom on the second floor.

Upon reaching the room, I saw Franklin lying on the bed and covering his stomach. She could hear him groaning softly.

“It hurts… Am I dying? I want to see Natalie… Before I die from pain, I wish that I could see Natalie once.” He groaned out in pain, even when he was sick, he was still dramatic.

I looked at Sophia and I gave her a smile so she knows that everything is fine and then I quickly went over to Franklin who was curled up into a ball on his bed and his breathing was labored. “Franklin, how long have you been in pain? What are the symptoms? Did you eat anything weird?” I start firing off questions so I know where to start in treating him.

“Natalie is that you? You came?” He asks like he can’t believe I’m actually here, he had this look of

satisfaction on his face when he looked at me.

“Of course I’m here Franklin, I told you before that anytime you called I would always come.” I said and he nodded his head and smiled.

I ran my hand through his hair softly, the same way I did to the boys when they were sick. “So tell me sweet boy, how bad does it hurt and when did it start?” I ask him.

“Natalie, I–I… I don’t know how long it has been. But, it hurts a lot.” He groans out in pain.

No I need to do something and I need to do it fast.
