Wow, Molly really seems to be in the wrong profession. She should be teaching drama instead of languages, because the way she flipped the situation just now was nothing short of impressive. But honestly, her crocodile tears won’t get her anywhere this time. I was alone, and yet she was the one looking for trouble.
A cold, almost amused smile crept across my lips as I tightened my hold on her arm.
I never expected Samuel to show up right at the critical moment. Out of everything today, that was the one thing he finally got right.
But now the real question was—would he take my side? And did I even want him to?
I wasn’t scared of Molly’s tattling, not one bit. She was just annoyed, trying her hardest to make the situation worse with her fake sobbing.
“Shut up,” I snapped sharply, and she whimpered in response. Humans really can be so fragile sometimes.
Molly’s acting skills kicked into overdrive, tears streaming down her face as she pleaded, “Alpha Bowers, my hands are about to break. Please, save me.” She blinked wide-eyed at Samuel, desperate for his sympathy.
Samuel frowned, his brows knitting together as he approached us. His thin lips pressed into a tight, unreadable line.
I could see the faint smile she tried to hide — Molly was thrilled to see Samuel coming over — but her tears kept falling anyway. She was a wolf, after all; she could have easily fought back and escaped my grip if she really wanted.
“Alpha Bowers, my hands hurt so much…” she whimpered again.
Seriously? She had to be joking. I wasn’t even holding her that tightly.
I turned my gaze toward Samuel’s perfectly sculpted face. Just looking at him made my heart skip a beat.
But that warmth vanished instantly when I remembered what Molly had done. All this drama was because of Samuel.
Time seemed to slow as we locked eyes.
I stared deep into his jet-black eyes, silently searching for any clue about what he was thinking.
Meanwhile, I kept Molly’s arm twisted behind her back, holding her like a criminal caught red-handed.
From the outside, it probably looked like I was bullying her.
“I know how this looks,” I said, “but she started it. I was only defending myself. So, Alpha Bowers, are you going to judge me for my sins?”
Samuel raised an eyebrow and replied in a low voice, “What sins?”
His response caught me off guard.
Molly’s sobs faltered as she realized he wasn’t reacting the way she expected. “Alpha Bowers, didn’t you see? She tried to hit me!”
Samuel’s gaze shifted to her tear-streaked face, but he looked at her with cold indifference.
“So what if I saw it?” he said bluntly.
Molly froze, mouth agape, completely stunned.
Sure, she was ugly on the inside, but she wasn’t exactly unattractive.
“How dare you judge someone by their looks? You’re unfit to teach my children,” Samuel said coldly, shooting her an icy glare before grabbing my hand and leading me away.
The whole scene left me shaken. When I finally collected myself, Samuel had already pulled me a good distance down the corridor before we stopped at a quiet corner.
Now, confusion swirled inside me. I needed to sort out my feelings quickly.
There was no way Samuel knew I was wearing a mask or what I looked like beneath it.
“The woman just now… she may harbor unpleasant thoughts, but she is still prettier than me…” I murmured quietly.
Suddenly, his scent enveloped me—a strong, intoxicating cologne—and I felt his warm breath brush against my face.
In the next instant, our noses were almost touching.
I was caught off guard, my heart pounding as the intensity in Samuel’s eyes deepened.
“I never want to hear you say those words again, Natalie,” he whispered close to my ear. “When I say you’re prettier than her, I mean it. You are the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on.”
