The Alpha’s Mafia Luna

Chapter 141

POV: Damian

The room was too quiet.

Not peaceful. Not calm. Justquiet in a way that made my chest feel heavy. Like the silence was pressing down on me, thick and cold.

Serene lay still on the bed. She wasn’t asleep exactly, but not awake either. Her breathing was shallowlight and quick, like she was trying to hold onto something in her sleep. Sweat glistened on her forehead, and her skin looked pale, almost grey. She didn’t look like herself. Not the fiery girl I knew. Not the one who challenged everyone and always looked like she was ready for a fight. Right now, she looked like something was draining the life right out of her.

And I couldn’t do anything about it.

I sat beside the bed, elbows on my knees, hands tangled in my hair. My head throbbed from stress, but I didn’t care. I kept seeing it. Over and over.

The moment she broke.

The way she screamed earlier, like her soul was being torn in half. The way she clawed at her own arms, her fingernails scratching deep lines into her skin like she was trying to pull something out. She had begged mebegged someoneto make it stop. To help her.

And I had just stood there.

Useless.

I should’ve been thereI muttered under my breath, more to myself than anyone else.

Mira was standing near the door, arms crossed tightly over her chest. She looked pale too, her usual calmi gone. She hadn’t said much since the healer left.

I didn’t know it would get this bad,she finally whispered. Her voice was soft, like she was scared of waking Serene upor scared of what she might wake up as. She was supposed to just observe. It wasn’t meant to pull her in again.

I looked up at her, anger flaring in my chest. You knew she was going into the dream realm. And you didn’t tell me.

Mira flinched. We thought it was just leftover residue. Traces from the last time. I swear, DamiahI didn’t know it would latch onto her again.

You thought?I stood quickly, the chair scraping loudly behind me. Rage burned under my skin. She almost lost herself! She wasn’t just afraid. She was

breaking, Mira. And we let her.

She didn’t want to tell you,she said quietly, her voice almost broken. She didn’t want to worry you. You were finally starting to heal, and she didn’t want

to be the reason you cracked again.

I turned back to Serene. Her lips were parted slightly, her eyes still shut. Her bond to me was faintjust a flicker of warmth deep in my chest. Like a candle

in the wind, threatening to go out.

She shouldn’t have had to face it alone.

We fell into silence again.

Then a sudden voice from the doorway made us both look up.

She’schanging.

One of the healers rushed in, eyes wide with fear. Her hands were trembling.

What do you mean changing?I was at Serene’s side in seconds.

The woman pointed to her arms and shoulders. Her skinlook!

My heart slammed against my ribs.

Glowing lines had appeared on Serene’s skinthin, swirling marks like ancient tattoos, tracing across her collarbones and down her forearms. They shimmered silver, softly pulsing with light like they were alive. I reached out slowly and brushed my fingers over one of the lines.

Warm.

Almost like touching sunlight.
