The Alpha’s Mafia Luna
Chapter 143
POV: Damian
The sky outside had turned from black to a dull, bruised grey.
Dawn was coming–but inside this room, time stood still.
I hadn’t moved from my place beside Serene. Not once. My body ached, but my heart ached more. I held her hand in mine, my thumb brushing over her
knuckles again and again like it might somehow pull her back.
She hadn’t stirred since midnight. Not really. Just the occasional twitch, the faintest movement of her lips, like she was whispering secrets to someone I
couldn’t see.
Then, all at once, her body jerked again.
My heart leapt into my throat.
“Serene?” I stood, my hands cupping her face gently. Her skin was still warm–too warm–but something had changed. Her eyes fluttered. Her lips parted.
She groaned softly.
Then her eyes opened.
But something was wrong.
Terribly wrong.
Her pupils were blown wide, and a strange smile curled on her lips. She sat up too quickly, movements jérky and unnatural, and laughed.
Laughed.
It wasn’t her laugh. It was hollow. Empty. A sound that didn’t belong to this world.
“Serene?” My voice cracked as I reached for her again. “It’s me, Damian. Look at me.”
She tilted her head, blinking lazily like she didn’t know who I was. “Damian… hmm. Funny name.” She giggled and swayed where she sat. “Your face looks
like a painting. All melty.”
My blood ran cold.
This wasn’t her. This couldn’t be her.
“I feel floaty,” she said, flopping back onto the bed like a puppet with cut strings. Are we flying? Or is the bed flying? Or am I dead? I teel dead. She let out a strange, dreamy laugh. “Maybe I’m a ghost.”
1 froze.
My hands trembled.

Chapter 143
Something invide her was still fighting. Still twisting her thoughts.
“Serene. Come back,” I whispered, voice breaking as I leaned closer. “You’re caring row,”
She turned her head and smiled at me. A dazed, empty smile.
And then she whispered, “Who’s Serene?”
My world tilted.
A choked sound escaped me as I fell to my knees beside her, cupping her cheeks. “Don’t do this,” I begged. “Don’t you dare slip away from me.”
She giggled again, her hands reaching up to swat at something only she could see. “The butterflies are made of fire, she said theerfully. “They told me you’d cry if I died,”
Tears filled my eyes, hot and sharp.
“I would,” I whispered. “I am.”
She blinked slowly, her lips moving as if to ask why. Her body trembled beneath my hands.
I leaned in and pressed my forehead to hers, tears falling freely now. “Because I love you,” I breathed. “Because you’re mine. Because I need you.”
The bond inside me flared, a sudden sharp tug–like something had been waiting for those words.
The energy around us shifted.
Then
I kissed her.
Softly. Desperately. As if that kiss could anchor her soul.
And maybe… it did.
The second our lips touched, something snapped inside the room. The air crackled with heat and energy, and a wave of silvery light pulsed outward fuum cut
bond.
Serene gasped.
Her body jerked violently against me and then went still.
I pulled back, heart racing.
She blinked again. Her eyes cleared. Forused.
And this time… they were hers.
“Damian?” Her voice was raw. Real. Weak, but grounded. She looked around like waking from a nightmare “What what happened? Where am I?
“You’re back,” I said, my voice thick with tears.
