Chapter 220
He sounded so taken with her, so smitten.
Lori reached for his hand, she was slightly trembling.
And you look ravishing in that tux. I just hope the ladies won’t be shamelessly ogling you tonight.”
Gabriel rolled his eyes.
“I wouldn’t have eyes for any other lady but you.”
“My only fear is that other men might be looking too.”
He murmured and Myra coughed.
Lori and Gabriel broke their gaze to glance at her.
Myra smirked.
‘I’m done with dressing her. I think you’re both ready to go.”
Lori nodded.
“Thank you Myra.”
“Yes. Not so fast though. Draco will be arriving soon to take Emilia to the safe house.”
“The safe house?”
Lori murmured in confusion. She was under the impression that Grace would be watching her.
“Yes. Don’t want Sabine getting any funny ideas.”
He muttered and Lori felt an uneasy feeling in her stomach.
How could she forget Sabine.
‘Do you think she’d make an appearance?”
Lori asked and Gabriel sighed.
‘She’d be stupid to. But I wouldn’t put it past her. That woman’s crazy…”
“And she might have something up her sleeves.”
Gabriel reached into his pocket and brought out a necklace.
“What’s that?”

Chapter 220
Lori asked and Gabriel showed it to her.
It was a small necklace, the pendant was a cross and it looked like it was dripping wet.
An amulet of protection. Draco said they work well against dark objects. You should wear it.”
“And will it work?”
Gabriel nodded.

“I was told it repels dark object, whatever that means, it’s been blessed by a priest of the Light Order and submerged in Holy water. If the rumors are true
then this should protect you against any form of dark objects that Sabine may send your way.”
I know it’s a bit too much but I can’t help but shake the feeling that she’s up to something…”
Gabriel explained as he helped Lori put on the necklace.
While they had been relatively happy and safe in the past few days, Lori couldn’t deny that Sabine had hung at the back of her mind, like a feeling she
couldn’t shake away. Like a past she couldn’t quite get rid of.
The woman hung like a bad omen around them, tainting their joy. They would never be completely happy until the damage she had caused was undone. And
now if she was trying to cause even more damage…. Lori just knew it would be directed at her.
Gabriel’s hands lingered on Lori’s creamy smooth neck long after he had put on the necklace for her.
“You know I can hear your heartbeat…”
He whispered and Lori gulped.
‘I know.”
She murmured.
And right now… your heart is beating dangerously fast.”
His mouth was inches away from her ear, his hot breath tickled her skin, making the tiny hairs on her back rise deliciously.
Just a little nervous.”
She managed to get out.
Gabriel nodded,
‘I know. Which is why I won’t be mad if you decided not to go.”
‘I have to go.”
She protested and Gabriel shrugged.
“You don’t owe anybody shit. You don’t have to.”

Chapter 220
Lori sighed as she turned back to face him, something about the lighting in the room made his blue eyes more piercing, the stuck out of his face like mini glaciers. He had styled all his hair back and something about that made his facial features much more prominent. High cheekbones, his long straight nose, his sharp jawline, his recently trimmed and shaped beard and his lips.
‘I want to.’
She finally answered as she pressed a gentle kiss on his lips, weary of her makeup.
Axel Walker hated the Summits. They did little for him, they did little to help his pack. Just a bunch of alphas coming together to find out which one of them was better. And then there was the charade, the pretense, the false respect they pretended to have for each other when in real life they wanted to tear
each other apart.
But this year promised to be fruitful. Interesting.
He had not had much to do with Gabriel Caine, but news flying around was that his mate was a nephilim. Other rumors also claimed that this said nephilim
had attacked Sabine and her pack.
The first news he could believe. The second he couldn’t really. Sabine was an exhausting woman and her obsession with Gabriel Caine was well known by most alphas. And his rejection had hurt her deep and she had never been able to forgive him ever since then.
Not that Axel saw what she saw in the bloke though. Gabriel was a rich snooty pretty boy who unfortunately did not have an easy rise to becoming alpha.
Every other thing in his life had been handed to him on a silver platter, Axel was glad that he had at least had the balls to fight to be alphas of his pack.
They were cordial with each other. But nothing more. Their packs were far away enough in territory to never warrant a meeting, or an unnecessary meetup.
And Gabriel was too proud to ever fraternize with the likes of him.
Axel was well aware of his reputation with the other alphas. And he liked it.
At least it made him untouchable.
Many of them were too scared to even talk to him.
He had come to the summit early, like he always liked to, to scout the area and keep his ears peeled for gossip.
The unremarkable alphas always seemed to arrive first, scrabbling for small talk and any piece of gossip they could get their hands on. This year delegates
from the Invito were invited and Axel ignored them.
He had gotten to well enough problems with them during the year to even deign to have an audience with them.
