Lori asked as she rolled on the floor.

Oh Myra had kicked her ass during training. In fact, she could barely feel her legs. Her muscles had been out of use for a while. It had only been about a

week or two since she was out of training yet it felt like it had been years.

“Loretta? Am I speaking to Loretta?”

Lori sat up. Something about the voice was oddly familiar.

“Yes?! Who is this?”

“This is lone.”

Ione.

Where had she heard that name before? She could have sworn it was familiar.

Ione what? From who?!”

‘lone Verstrynge. A friend of yours gave me your number. Her name is Astra.”

That was when it clicked.

Astra had told her.

That her mother was named Ione. And that she had heard of her. Lori couldn’t believe her ears!

She couldn’t believe that she was talking to her birth mother. As shocked as she was, she also felt overwhelmingly angry.

It had been years, what reason did the woman have to call her now?

‘What do you want?!”

She asked coldly.

“I want to help you Lori.”

Lori almost scoffed, tears blurring her vision.

“I’m not sure what I need help with.”

Astra told me about you. She wrote me a letter to help, she said your son was in danger. I intend to help.”

Her heart skipped a beat.

Astra had done that for her?!

She really did?

Lori was touched, that despite the fact that Astra had been captured, tortured and put through hell all because she had helped her, she still managed to look

out for her.

“And how can you help with that?!”

‘I will be in Denver in the next six hours. I’d like to meet you so we can discuss the way forward.”

Myra was looking at Lori strangely now, wondering who she was talking about.

Lori realized that Ione has still not mentioned that she was her mother. That sort of stung.

And how do I know that I can trust you?!”

She asked and there was a brief silence.

“Because I’m your mother.”

She finally said as she ended the call.

Lori stared at the phone long after the call was ended.

“What’s wrong?!”

Myra asked as she looked at Lori. She rushed to her side and gently touched her shoulder.

Lori shook her head.

“It’s… I can’t even explain right now. I have to talk to Gabriel.”

She murmured as she dialed his number.

“Your mother?!

Gabriel sounded absolutely gobsmacked. When Lori had called him, she had almost sounded incomprehensible with the sobbing and the talking and the nose blowing. He had told her to come home quickly so she could explain properly.

And when she got home and mentioned her

ther again and the fact that she wanted to see him, he was inclined not to believe the strange woman.

‘It could be a trap.

He added and Lori shook her head.

‘I don’t think so. But if it is, I’ll find out in the next six h

hours more or less.”
