Lori agreed. She would feel better if Gabriel was around so he was coming with her, whether or not lone liked it.

“All these years… I can’t believe it…”

She murmured.

Gabriel sat next to her, pulling her into his arms, Lori rested on his bare chest. He stroked her hair gently.

“I don’t know what would be worse to find out… knowing that she gave me up willingly and never looked back or her losing me and her failing to find me

till now…

I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough.”

He whispered gently into her ear.

Lori knew she would, but it didn’t make things any better. Because the truth would hurt and the truth was hard.

Perhaps the hardest pill for her to swallow would be finding out her mother never truly wanting her. Discarding her and leaving her for all those years without ever looking back or staying in contact.

Lori wondered if she had another family. Perhaps a better one with kids she actually liked.

The thought of being unwanted by her own mother haunted her deeply.

“And what if she never wanted me…”

She asked and Gabriel paused.

“Then she made the greatest mistake of her life losing you.”

He continued stroking her hair and his words somehow made her more calm and less anxious and she closed her eyes and decided to rest.

Emilia’s cries had woken them both up. Realising that they had fallen asleep, Lori and Gabriel rushed to the baby’s room to pick up the baby. Gabriel looked at the time as he bounced Emilia on his hip.

“She would arrive in the next two hours. You should get some more rest while I clean up and feed the baby.”

Lori shook her head as she rubbed her tired eyes. Something told her eyes were swollen from all the sobbing she had done during the ride back home.

‘Oh no. I’ve slept enough. Let me help you with the baby, you should take a shower.

She scrunched up her nose and Gabriel gave her a look. He sniffed his armpits.

‘Are you implying that I stink?”

Lori balked.

‘I never said that… but you do need to go shower if you’re coming with me.”

‘I can’t have you smelling like diapers when you meet her.”

Gabriel raised an eyebrow.

“Oooh. Already eager to impress her are you?!”

Lori’s cheeks flushed.

Probably. She didn’t even realise what she was doing.

“Just go! I’ll feed Emillia.

She took Emilia from his arms and bounced her on her hips.

Gabriel left the room after kissing her forehead and Lori went to look for bottles to feed the baby.

As the hour drew nearer, Lori became even more nervous and anxious. She had taken a bath and spent an ungodly amount of time looking for what to wear.

What did one wear when meeting their mother for the first time?!

Gabriel had endlessly tried to calm her down but it was of little use, she was jittery no matter how much he tried. Eventually, she found clothes to wear and

the perfect shoes to match. Ione called her again, this time, Gabriel listened in on the call.

She called her to tell her she had arrived in Denver and was driving over to the location. Lori and Gabriel go over their plan, just in case it was actually a

trap.
