The Alpha’s Plus Size Obsession novel Chapter 16

16

Modric

The moment I pushed open the door to my study, irritation flared hot in my chest. Mary Ann stood behind my desk, looking far too comfortable there, with Kylian right beside her. The two of them in my private space felt like an intrusion I had not invited. Her soft curves were framed by the late afternoon light coming through the window, and Kylian leaned casually against the edge of the desk as if they were old friends sharing secrets. My wolf growled low inside me, possessive and restless.

“What are you doing in here?” I demanded, stepping inside and closing the door harder than necessary. My voice came out rough, edged with the exhaustion of days on the border and the constant fight against memories I could not erase.

Mary Ann straightened, meeting my gaze without flinching. Her dark curls framed her face, and those full lips that had haunted my nights pressed into a calm line. “I left a proposal on your desk for the Unity Festival. I believe it could help bring healing between our packs and Mooncrest.”

I glanced at the neatly organized document sitting front and center. The sight of her handwriting on my papers only fueled my irritation. “You have no right to go through my things or insert yourself into Alpha matters. Stay out of my study.”

She did not back down. Her voice remained steady, though I saw a flicker of hurt in her eyes. “I am not inserting myself. I am doing my duty as Luna. The pack women support the idea. It is a chance to rebuild trust after the clashes.”

I crossed my arms, forcing my eyes away from her mouth. Every time I looked at her lips, I remembered how they had felt under mine, soft and responsive, the little moan she had made when I deepened the kiss. The memory made heat pool low in my gut. I grew colder to hide it, letting my voice turn to ice. “The festival was cancelled for good reason. Tensions are still high. I will not risk more conflict because you want to play peacemaker.”

Mary Ann stepped around the desk, her generous hips swaying slightly with the movement. The dress she wore hugged her body in ways that tested every ounce of my control. “I am not playing anything, Modric. I am Luna, not a decoration you can hide away in the Luna Wing. The pack needs unity, and this proposal addresses real concerns from the infirmary and the families.”

Our argument grew tense, words sharpening like blades. Neither of us mentioned the kiss, but it hung between us anyway, thick and unspoken. I could see it in the way her cheeks flushed and in the way I had to clench my fists to keep from reaching for her. The mate bond pulled at me, demanding I close the distance, but I refused. Admitting how much that one moment had shaken me would only weaken my position.

“You overstep,” I said coldly, turning my gaze to the window. “These are Alpha decisions. Border security, pack safety. Not something for you to decide over breakfast with the women.”

I sank into my chair, rubbing my temples. The room still carried the faint scent of wildflowers from her presence. I tried to ignore it. For several minutes I stared at the document without touching it, telling myself I would throw it aside or burn it. But curiosity won. I picked it up and began to read.
