Chapter 112
He gave me a hard look, but he didn’t say a word. Not bothering to translate that, I brought the coffee to him and lowered it down in front of him on his desk.
“Thanks,” he said, mostly in a grumble
“My pleasure,” I said, and waited for him to drink it
Instead, he placed it to the side. “That will be all, Brittany have to return to my work.”
As much as I would have liked to, I couldn’t pull his mouth open and forced the drink down his throat. Instead, though, I could be ready and available for when he called for me in his lusty haze and desperation.
“I’ll be nearby,” I promised.
He gave me a strange look, but I walked out the room before he could order me hot to.
Laila’s POV
As the contract continued, most things worked in tandem with one another. But some things were starting to fall apart and it was clear they needed a bit more capital investment to upgrade some machines that would improve the output.
My job was mostly just to connect the dots, to bring people into contact with one another, and to spot these problems as they arose. I didn’t have the authority to clear money for that kind of development. Jason would need to do that.
But I knew, if I called him, I would be transferred to Brittany. She wouldn’t understand the need and was likely to reject my ideas simply out of spite.
If I wanted any kind of positive outcome to this situation, then I needed to find a way to speak to Jason.
He had avoided me in the past, but with his engagement announced now, which seemed to take some of the heat from Dustin’s threats off of him, perhaps he would have the time and capacity to actually speak with me about work.
I drove over there in a hurry, and parked at the pack house. A putler answered the door, and made me wait outside. Before long though, the butler returned and asked me to follow him.
To my surprise and relief, he led me straight to Jason’s office door and opened it. Before I knew it, I was being ushered inside.
“Vanessa,” Jason said, looking up. “It’s good to see you.”
“Thank you for taking the time to see me,” I said. “I’ve noticed a problem in the implementation of our recent contract and I’m hoping to speak with you about possible solutions.”

“That sounds great,” he said, and gestured toward the open seat opposite his desk. I sat down, just as he reached for the cup of
coffee on his desk.
He brought it to his lips and sipped. Then he hummed. “My servant must be trying something new with my coffee.”
“Is it good or bad?”
“Good,” he said. “I can have her make a cup for you, if you’d like?”
“No, I already had some today.”
Jason took another sip, longer and deeper this time. Then he set down the mug.
“Tell me what the problem is,” he said.
“I’ve noticed that there is a strain on the manufacturing,” I said. “We aren’t quite filling the demand. If we reinvested in the machinery, upgrading some of the… are you alright?”
Jason tugged at the collar of his shirt. “I’m sorry, Vanessa. I don’t know what’s come over me. Is it hot in here to you?”
