Chapter 202
That he couldn’t just meant that
“I’ve asked Brittany for a divorce,” he said.
My thoughts came to a screeching halt.
“That’s why she’s lashing out,” he went on. “She’s desperate.”
“You…” Gods, I never in a million years would have thought Jason would have the nerve to openly defy his father in such a way. But this had been part of his earlier speech, hadn’t it? He was tired of allowing his perceived responsibilities affect his life
anymore.
“I’m serious. I’m done living lies. Removing Brittany from my life is my first step toward happiness,” he said. “Keeping you in my life is the second.”
“Jason.”
“I want a partner that I can trust. I want a Luna that I can love,” he said.
Love was a big word. “We aren’t there. That’s not us.”
A
“Not yet,” Jason said. “But tell me you don’t feel anything for me. Tell me you can’t feel the growing spark between us. The burn. That’s not nothing, Vanessa. I think it might be the opposite. It could be everything.”
Never, for as long as I had known him, had I ever seen Jason say or do anything so bold.
This time, when he took a step near me, I didn’t back away. I didn’t stop him, or threaten to call security.
Instead, I opened my mouth and licked my lips with my tongue in anticipation.
There were reasons we shouldn’t kiss in the office, but they were gone from my mind. With a speech like that, all I could think about was Jason. Holding him. Kissing him.
To the hells with anything else.
Jason, seeing my tongue, moved quicker, even further emboldened. He closed the distance in two long strides, wrapped his arms around my waist, then dropped his lips to mine, kissing me like his life depended on it.
Maybe it did.
Clinging onto his shoulders, my nails digging into his suit coat, I kissing him back just as surely. As deeply. As passionately. Giving as much as I was taking.
Who needed to breathe? Who needed anything but this?
Maybe it was love. Maybe it was too soon for it.
But he hadn’t lied. I couldn’t deny it.
Deep in my chest, a hole that had been carved into me when I had been cast out of Jason’s life was slowly filling up again. Burning. Almost too much.
And yet still somehow perfect.
Adelaide’s POV
So. My dear niece was having a torrid love affair with Alpha jason. That certainly explained a few things. And it was very interesting
Mostly, though, it was useful.

With Vanessa… occupied, I saw no reason to stick around any longer at the office. Alpha Jason was a deterrent, as he unfortunately outranked me and would stand against any torment I had planned for my nosy niece.
Always looking were she didn’t belong.
To get back to my plans, I would heed Jason out of the way. And what better way to do that than to that then to acquire and accomplice. These things were so much easier to manage when someone else did all of the dirty work.
I couldn’t ask for a better accomplice than a jilted wifes
One phone call got me into the pack house for a special meeting with Brittany.
No sconer did I walk into the sitting room where she was meeting me, take one look at Brittany, and know we would be on the
same side.
She looked like a woman eager for revenge. I would know. I had been just like her at her age.
“You are Vanessa Harper’s aunt,” she said, haltingly. Showing a healthy amount of caution. “Why would you want to see me?”
“Because I imagine that we want the same thing. Why work alone when together works better?” I said, smiling
“You presume to know what I want.”

“I do.”
