“You have a sorry way of showing that.”

“It’s my fault,” I said. “My worry for my daughter led me to ask. It won’t happen again.”
Richard’s eyes narrowed, looking at me. “Make sure that it doesn’t. Do not ask about the wolfsbane cure again. You will be given no more chances.”

Chapter 326
Laila’s POV
With a break between events and after what had just happened, Jason and I decided to return to the hotel for a little while. The Ambassador was elsewhere, but we alerted him first
“Just make sure you are back in time for the grand dinner,” he said. “You wouldn’t want to miss seeing the actual full moon.” For now though, Jason and I walked into our hotel room, and I tried not to show how defeated I felt. But after a moment’s silence, I found I couldn’t be quiet about it.
“I’ve ruined things,” I said.
“You didn’t.”
“And I got that poor man involved. Larry. He was only being nice, and now he’s in trouble with his Alpha.”
“A healer like Larry has earned his place in this pack,” Jason said. “Richard wouldn’t actually do anything against him other than lightly scold him, or he’d risk angering his own elders, I’m sure.”
I nodded, accepting that. I still felt some guilt getting Larry involved, but that light scolding would likely be the worst he would expérience. Us, meanwhile…
“How are we going to move forward?” I asked. “If we are banned from talking about the cure, to the point where he might expel us if he catches us again…”
“Then we don’t get caught next time,” Jason said. He frowned a little. “This was my fault. I thought Richard had gone on the
“He walked toward me. Placing his hands on run. I hadn’t expected him to be back so soon so I wasn’t stretching out my senses. my arms, he rubbed up and down from shoulder to elbow and back again. “I will be more careful in the future. He won’t catch us a second time.”
I wanted to believe him. Continuing to push forward was a big gamble, but for Ava, any risk was worth it.
“We did learn a lot from Larry,” I said. “We know they have a cure and that at least one of the ingredients is very rare.” “Something like that is going to be kept in a special location,” Jason said. “If it’s so rare, I doubt just any clinic will have it in stock. We have to figure out where it is being kept.”
I huffed a harsh breath, feeling frustrated. Every time we inched forward, we found that there was another mile ahead of us. Worse, we couldn’t do anything right now. Until the ceremony tonight, I would feel like we were just sitting on pins and needles.
“We should relax,” Jason said. “Stay calm.”
“Easier said than done,” I said. “I’m so anxious, I feel like I’m going to rattle right out of my skin.”
Jason glanced at the bed, and back to me. I did the same, looking away quicker, my blush deepening.
“There is something we could do, to help with the stress,” he said.
“We couldn’t,” I said quickly, even as my heart picked up speed.
“I know you aren’t ready for a relationship,” Jason said. “This doesn’t have to be that. We could just… help each other. Blow off some steam.”
Closing my eyes, I leaned into him lightly, feeling the pull of attraction again. The promise of being with him was already affecting me, and after last night, I could feel it even more keenly.
Touching myself, hearing him touch himself, had been supposed to calm down my lust, to take the edge off so we wouldn’t lead to moments like this, where I wanted him more than I wanted to protect my heart.
Yet, here we were:
His breathing deepened, his chest rising and falling. I imagined his muscles moving beneath his shirt. I’d envisioned him naked last night. If I could see it today, with my own eyes. If I could touch him…
