The convoy
of cars with security was arranged, and we made our way to the place.

“I can’t believe I will be stepping my foot into that place meant only for billionaires! It’s still a dream how powerful and wealthy you have become, Fiona. Lydia won’t believe her eyes.” Raina grinned as she rubbed my palms gleefully.
“I will show her what inferiority feels like soon.” I muttered with a smirk tugging my lips.
The bar was soft–lit and beautiful, with hanging lanterns swaying above the open rooftop. Couples whispered over drinks, kissing and enjoying their moment. A violinist played by the railing, and the river sparkled behind like scattered stars.
Kieran stood beside me, tucking me close so no one bumped into me. “Stay near,” he murmured.
I smiled. “Don’t worry. No one here knows me, and they won’t expect the rejected daughter of the Beta to show up in such a place. Besides, I don’t have the Beta scent anymore after leaving the family.”
He chuckled. “But you still have the same face. They will soon notice.”
We stepped inside. Kieran took the seat beside me, alert but relaxed as Raina ordered drinks.
Nightingale was actually peaceful, warming and alive in a way that soothed every ache inside
I’d barely taken my first sip when Raina leaned closer. “Fiona… Will you tell me something honestly?”
“Yes.”
Her eyes softened. “Are you genuinely happy?”
I blinked.
“What do you mean?”
“Are you happy with your new life? Do you in any way miss your family or feel any guilt?” she asked calmly, and I swallowed, thinking of my ten brothers who once adored me like a sister before I was replaced.
Then now, here I was with Raina finally free of Lydia’s venom. Also Kieran, who treats me like 1 am a precious gem–my new family that gave me an unwavering loyalty.

“Yes,” I whispered in reply. “For the first time in my life… I think I feel so happy.”

22 Finished,
Raina’s eyes glistened, and she nodded. “Good, because you deserve every happiness. This is a blessing, and you should enjoy every bit of it. I just can’t wait to see you find your mate. I wonder who would be this lucky man.”
I giggled. “I wonder too.”
We shared a quiet moment, talking about many things.
But just then, there was a shift in the air and a change in the atmosphere.
It began with a few murmurs… then a wave of whispers as people turned, their heads lifted and eyes widened towards me. Someone had noticed me and called the attention of others.
“Isn’t that Fiona?
“The Beta’s daughter who left home.”
“Wait, how could she afford this place?”
“She looks so different!”
They all murmured, but I spared no one a glance.
“It will soon reach Lydia’s ears, and I am sure she won’t believe it.” Raina laughed as we filled our cups and drank more.
The music sends a thrill down my spine as I shake my head in rhythm.
Damon’s POV
What the hell am I doing here?
That was the question looping in my head as I took a seat at the far end of Nightingale Bar, the bass vibrating under my fingertips.
I wasn’t supposed to care.
I wasn’t supposed to think about her or bother if she was safe or dead.
But ever since Fiona vanished into the forest, something has felt wrong. Something in my chest was unsettled and heavy, as if I was wrong for letting her go.
As if I should have stood by the truth and scolded Lydia for lying against her.
I had always wanted Fiona to disappear so I wouldn’t be mocked for having such a weakling as

my sister, but it’s three days now, and seeing she didn’t come back as we all expected, I have been restless, guilty and angry.
Lydia had been sweet and perfect, insisting Fiona deserved everything she got and that she already had it all planned out before walking away, but for the first time in my life, her words didn’t sit right with me.
That’s why I came here.
To drown the guilt with alcohol. I came to drown the memory of Fiona’s face when she walked away. Maybe I could lose myself in something loud enough to silence the ache in my ribs.
I ordered more vodka.
The male bartender handed it over. “Rough night?”
“Something like that,” I muttered with a shrug, and it was then the murmurs began.
A wave of reaction moved through the bar like electricity, and I could hear whispers and Heads turning all at once to a single direction..
I frowned and followed their gazes, and that was when I saw her.
My entire body went still.
There she was.
Fiona.
