Lucas wasn’t just a king. He was a warrior with a fierce Lycan beast within him. But the Moon Goddess had cursed him at birth to be without a mate. Any woman he chose either lost her mind or lost her life, and his wolf destroyed anyone he tried to love.

And now this man wanted me to heal him.

Toren leaned forward, his tone careful. “He didn’t use threats and offered to pay any price you name. The man is desperate but surprisingly courteous, which is rare for him.”

I sank back slowly, trying to take it all in.

Kieran, my personal guard, added, “I don’t know how he knew about your awakening. He suddenly knows someone like you exists. Thankfully we keep your identity and location. hidden, so he can’t come for you.” His lips curved. “We’ll reject the offer, Fiona. It’s too risky.”

Another councilman nodded. “Yes. The Lycan King personally asking for you, wanting you to spend the night with him… that is dangerous.”

“What does he truly want? Can sleeping with him heal him? And what is in my blood that could fix his cursed heart?” My confusion slipped out in a whisper.

Maeron exchanged glances with the others before answering. “According to the letter, he was cursed at birth. Half Lycan, half monster. His blood rejects the mate bond and his power destroys anything it loves.”

Calor frowned. “Then the answer is no because she can’t heal a curse by the moon goddess.”

Kieran let out a rough chuckle. “That man can’t be trusted. Something else is at play, and we won’t let him near you.”

Warmth tugged at my chest and made me smile. Their protectiveness, their unity… it reminded me of the family I had always wished for. A family that loved me. Not the one that cast me out and chose an adopted daughter over me.

These people genuinely cared for me. They refused the offer, even though it could bring them immense wealth. My safety mattered more.

“Do you miss anyone?”

Their questions came as we ate, and a smile tugged at my lips.

“Raina. She was my only friend, but I haven’t seen her in years. My family never allowed her to visit me.”

“Your family treated you terribly,” Calor muttered, shaking his head.

“I was useless to them because I had no wolf.”

“Don’t worry,” Kieran said with a wink. “We’re your new family now.”

The day went by with Kieran showing me around the mansion–the garden, the stream, the estate. He even drove me around the grounds.

The next morning I woke feeling like a newborn, with a wide smile and an excitement that bubbled in my chest. My dream had been peaceful, nothing like the nightmares I used to have.

Kieran stepped inside, his silver eyes catching the morning sun. “My Queen, someone is here to see you.”

There was a softness in his voice.

“Who?” I asked, but he only stepped aside and opened the door wider.

The moment I saw her, the breath left my lungs.

“Raina?”

She froze. Her eyes widened, her disbelief shining like tears. For a heartbeat we simply stared at each other. Then she whispered, “Fiona?”

I didn’t wait. I ran to her, and she met me halfway. Her arms wrapped around me so tightly it hurt in the best way. Her body shook with quiet sobs.

“You’re alive,” she cried into my shoulder. “Fiona, you’re alive. I thought I would never see you again.”

Tears streamed down my face. “I missed you so much.”

She pulled back and cupped my checks, just like she used to after difficult days in our high school year. Her touch was warm and familiar and her eyes scanned me with love.

“Fiona… where are we? Why are there guards? And why are you dressed like-”

Her gaze swept over the golden drapes, the silver mural, the carved furniture.

I laughed softly through my tears. “It’s a long story.”

Kieran cleared his throat. “I’ll give you both privacy.” He bowed to Raina. “You are safe here. Welcome.”

When he left, Raina faced me again, still stunned. “He visited me. He told me he would bring me to you. I didn’t believe him at first, but he showed me your picture. Fiona, I’m so happy to see you again.”

“I know. I wasn’t even allowed to leave the house and visit you.”

She sat beside me, her eyes never leaving my face. “Tell me everything.”

So I did. The night I ran away. The five cloaked men and the journey here.

Raina listened with tears in her eyes, one hand covering her mouth as if holding back a sob.

When I finished, she let out a shaky laugh. “I knew it. I always knew you were meant for greatness. I told you, Fiona. You’re a star and someday the world would bow to you.”

I smiled, remembering our whispered hopes. “I don’t know, but they call me queen here. And I have millions of dollars to my name unlike my miserable life in my own father’s house.”

Her smile trembled.

“When I heard what happened at the prosecution hall… that Lydia pretended to fall and blamed you… I was furious. I went to the Alpha to defend you and request that Lydia be punished for false accusation.” Her voice broke. “But he ordered me to be lashed and dragged out.”

“I’m so sorry,” I whispered, hugging her tightly.

“Don’t worry. You’re in a better place now, and that’s all that matters.”

Dinner stretched long into the evening. Afterward, the men returned to their duties, leaving only me, Kieran, and Raina in the candlelit hall.

Kieran stepped closer. “My Queen, the academy opens soon and you’ll need an accompany.”

His eyes shifted to Raina. “Would you accompany her? As part of her circle?”
