Chapter 13

Damon’s POV

Foushed

The cold night air slapped my face the moment I pushed through the bar’s doors and stepped out in a hurry. The noise inside from the music, laughter and whispers died behind me like someone had shut the world off.

Then I sighted her. Fiona.

Just a few feet away, standing beside a sleek, obsidian car, one of those rare luxury models you only ever see Alphas and nobles use. The engine hummed softly, and the headlights reflected a soft glow across the pavement.

Raina slid gracefully into the backseat while Kieran held the door open for her, his posture respectful, his eyes constantly scanning their surroundings like any threat would have to get through him first.

Fiona was suddenly a queen in her world, leaving me wondering how tables could turn this fast. What was so special about her? How did it all happen in a day? What secret was she hiding from her family all this while?

I rushed towards her, and she turned slightly as she sensed me, her expression cold like she would beat me up if I tried anything stupid.

There was no trace of the weak, obedient girl she was in the house.

No longer the sister who was ready to do anything to get my validation.

In fact, she’d become someone who would never need me.

Kieran glanced my way, taking note of my approach, but he didn’t move to block me and didn’t leave either.

I watched as Fiona gave him a silent command, and he simply nodded and took some steps away, giving us the privacy needed.

Fiona,I called out, breath uneven.

She paused midturn, her fingers grazing the car door handle, her posture relaxed as if she were greeting a stranger.

Then she faced me fully, and her eyes, which I had seen as always dull and swallowed by fear for many years, were now so bright and unshakeable. They held a depth I’d never imagined looking for back home.

The polite tone stabbed deeper than anger ever could have, and I gritted my teeth, trying to control myself. She just called me beta, Damon, like I wasn’t her brother.

My jaw tightened.

Why didn’t you leave? You-I stopped, forcing my voice steady. I saw those men try to grab you. You didn’t even look my way. You didn’t even ask your big brother for help as you always do.

Her eyebrow lifted slowly, and I caught the smallest ghost of a smile touching the corner of her lips.

Why would I ask you?

The words hit like claws.

My breath caught. Becausebecause you were surrounded! You could’ve been hurt!

She blinked once, sneered and then laughed softly.

You fought one man, Damon,” she said. One. Which was because you forced yourself into it. I didn’t need your help?

Heat flared under my skin, and I exhaled deeply, folding my arms. Her tone wasn’t insulting but sharp and steady and somehow made it feel worse.

She continued casually, brushing hair behind her ear. Kieran and I handled it. Easily.

I swallowed. Still. You could have been in danger.

She tilted her head. Then why does it bother you so much?

A simple question, but it felt so cruel, and I didn’t have an answer to it.

Well. No matter whatI gritted out, you’re my

sister.

No,she said. I was your sister, and that is past tense.

My heart dropped.

You made that clear long before I left. You should be happy I finally made your dream come true by leaving everything for Lydia, the perfect sister. No more shame for you,she added, and the night air suddenly felt too sharp against my lungs.
