The Beta's Rejected Daughter (Fiona) novel Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Lydia’s POV

I came to check your vitality. Your father was worried after thefall.Aria, our family doctor said as she walked into my room.

Ah, yes. The fake fall. The act that had fooled everyone except the one who had truly seen it all. Fiona. Till now, it was still a mystery how she knew my plan ahead. Or maybe she was just smarter and set the camera as a precaution.

I nodded at Aria and offered my wrist. I’m fine, really. Just a few bruises.”

As she examined me, her expression tightened, her eyes flicking toward the doorway as if afraid of being overheard.

Lydia, she said quietly, where is Fiona?

I tilted my head, feigning confusion. Fiona?

She hasn’t returned home,Aria said. I went by her room this morning, and it was empty. The guards said she ran into the woods at midnight alone.

I sighed, lowering my lashes. She left of her own accord. We tried to stop her, but she wouldn’t listen. You know how stubborn she can be.”

Aria frowned. She’s just a girl. Alone out there, she’ll die. You must send help.

I’m sure she’s fine,I replied softly, placing a hand over my chest. She’s stronger than you think. Maybe she just needs time.”

But Aria’s gaze sharpened, as if she could see through my calm. You sound awfully composed for someone whose sister vanished in the night.

I smiled faintly. And you sound very emotional for a family physician.

She flinched.

Got you.

A knock came at the door. It was one of Father’s men, carrying a tray of tonics.

I turned back to Aria with a sweet smile. Thank you for checking on me. You’ve done your part. You may go.

But she didn’t move. Lydia, she said again, voice trembling slightly. If you know anything

She truly thought loyalty would protect her.

Pathetic.

Dad pecked me before leaving, that proud smile on his face.

The moment the door closed, I sank onto the bed, clutching the hem of my dress, unable to contain the thrill curling through me.

Tomorrow, I would become what Fiona never could.

Tomorrow, the world will see a daughter worth keeping. The one who was better. I can’t wait for Fiona to receive the news that I had taken everything left. When she finally returned, she would be beneath my feet.

The next day came fast.

Maids flitted around my room like butterflies, dressing me in silver silk and fastening the Beta crestshaped necklace Father had polished himself.

My hair fell in soft waves around my shoulders, and the mirror reflected exactly what I wanted the world to see: grace, beauty, innocence, and perfection.

Miss Lydia, one of the maids said breathlessly, you look like the moon herself.

Do I?I whispered, feigning modesty.

Inside, my pulse drummed with power. My dream is becoming my reality so fast.

When I descended the stairs, the entire family was waiting. Mother radiant in her gown, Father already smiling with pride, my brothers dressed in their Beta uniforms. Even the servants bowed lower than usual.

Outside, sleek black cars lined the driveway.

When we got to the school, cameras flashed from the front gates as reporters tried to catch a glimpse of the Beta’s miracle daughter.

Me.

It was everything I’d desired.

The Academy building was gigantic, grander and more modern than I imagined, with banners of silver and crimson fluttering high above the courtyard and marble steps polished to a mirror shine. Every family of rank was gathered, laughter and perfume filling the air with soft music.

As we entered, conversations hushed and heads turned.

The whispers began almost instantly.

That’s herLydia Jenson.

The one the Alpha favored after the scandal from the other daughter

I heard she left the house because she couldn’t bear seeing another person take her position.

It felt so sweet hearing their words.

When Father guided me onto the stage, the Alpha himself rose. He was a broad man, his power unmistakable. His wife stood beside him, smiling fondly at me as though I were already part of their family.

Today, the Alpha declared, his voice booming across the hall, we celebrate a new era. The Jenson family remains loyal, steadfast, and worthy of the Beta line. Lydia, step forward.

My heart soared. I walked gracefully, my steps measured, my head bowed just enough to convey humility.

He lifted a silver pendant and placed it around my neck.

It was a Beta crest glowing faintly beneath the chandeliers. The room erupted into applause.

Rise, Lydia Jenson,he said warmly. The official daughter of the Beta house.

Cheers filled the air. My parents smiled like royalty, and for the first time, I truly felt the power I’d always craved settle beneath my skin.

I was no longer Beta’s second daughter.

I was the daughter.

The true heiress.

The celebration spilled into the evening. Laughter all over the places as glasses clinked, and the scent of expensive wine filled the air. Musicians played soft with the sweet melodies filling my ears with excitement. I could see the nobles dancing under golden lights and I couldn’t help the grin on my face seeing I had become one of them.

I sat there radiant. Smiling and Shining as we wait for the prince..

And just then the doors opened.

The entire hall fell silent as the Alpha’s son arrived.

Every whisper died and every head turned to him.

The guards at the entrance straightened immediately as two heralds stepped forward, their staffs striking the marble in perfect rhythm.

Announcing the return of the Blood Moon Pack heir His Grace, Daren Kane.

The name rolled through the crowd like thunder.

For a heartbeat, the entire room held its breath.

And then, he walked in.

Daren.

The Future Alpha.

The man every woman in the pack whispered about in their sleep.

He stepped through the wide double doors, tall and impossibly poised, the black expensive robe hugging his sculpted frame. His shoulders broad, his movements deliberate with every stride radiating command.

Dark hair brushed his jaw, gleaming faintly beneath the chandelier’s light, and his eyes, those sharp, molten hazel with flecks of gold swept the hall slowly and calmly, with the quiet confidence of a man who knew he was born to be obeyed.

He was breathtaking.

No- more than that. He was lethal in beauty and perfection.

The air shifted around him, charged and heavy, and the low hum of feminine sighs spread through the crowd. Every girl in that room leaned forward, spellbound as they craved his attention but he didn’t even look at them.

I couldn’t move.

My wolf stirred inside me, pushing forward, eager. Her whine echoed faintly in my mind desperate to feel the bond, to connect, to belong to him.

It was him.
