Finistred
“Time to start going…” Raina spoke through the mind–link, her lips unmoving. I realized we could all communicate with our wolves silently once we opened the channel.
“Yes!” I shrieked back through the link, turning to Kieran, who laughed through his wolf as well.
I hugged Raina before we both stepped out of the midnight–black Audi Q5. I didn’t bring the Porsche or any flashy car; I didn’t want unnecessary attention. Getting accepted into this academy after cutting ties with my family already brought enough eyes my way.
As soon as we stepped forward, whispers rose. Students paused mid–conversation to stare at
“That’s Fiona Jenson.”
“The rejected Beta daughter?”
“I thought she vanished after Lydia took her place.”
“Is she enrolling here? Who paid for her?”
Their words chased me as I walked, and my wolf lifted her head inside me–curious, alert, scanning through my eyes.
Raina nearly vibrated with excitement. “Fiona,” she whispered dramatically, fanning herself, “everyone is staring. You’re trending without even trying.”
“I didn’t come here to trend,” I muttered, smoothing my jacket.
“No,” she smirked. “But look at you–glowing like you own the place. You can’t hide royalty even if you want to.”
My chest tightened slightly at the mention of royalty. My mind flashed back to when I lived a normal life as the Beta daughter before Lydia dragged everything downhill.
Just as we reached the hallway, a tall figure stopped directly in front of me. I flinched when our
eyes met.
Damon.
My first brother.
His jaw dropped when he saw me. Shock flickered across his face, but I continued walking without acknowledging him. I didn’t even let my steps slow.

I walked past him like he was a stranger. My wolf purred with satisfaction.

Raina nearly burst into a grin while Kieran walked behind us, shoulders squared, ready for anything.
“That is exactly how to pay them back. Let them watch you win,” Raina chirped, practically bubbling with triumph. But I didn’t feel that same joy yet. I saw Lydia’s eyes when she left that Porsche dealer shop and it showed how wicked her heart was.
The thought of it made it impossible to relax; she was surely planning something I didn’t know about.
I also had no idea what would happen if my source of income was exposed. Enemies would come, and the Beta family–my own family- who should protect me, had already turned their backs on me.
My father hadn’t bothered checking if I was alive or dead. Even my mother hadn’t called. It hurt deeply because, beneath everything, I still longed for her. I still yearned for her love.
But they had chosen Lydia.
As I approached the proprietor’s door, heavy footsteps came up behind me. When I turned, it was Damon.
He grabbed my arms. “Follow me,” he ordered. Kieran stepped forward, but I raised a hand to stop him. I let Damon pull me toward a corner.
“What do you think you are?” he growled, fury in his voice.
“What do you mean?” I asked with a frown.
“Why haven’t you come back to apologize?”
“Apologize for what? Who did I offend?”
“The family. You brought shame to us and-”
“Tell me how.”
“When you left, rumors spread that we maltreated you and turned you into a slave before disowning you. And now you show up with sudden wealth. People are saying you’re a prostitute for rich men.”
“You know very well I’d never do that. Everyone knows the kind of person I am.”
“I don’t know you anymore,” he snapped. “Not this version of you. You turned into something no one recognizes.”

Fosped
My heart clenched, but I held my composure. “What did you bring me here for?”
“After school today, you’re coming home with us to apologize and clear our name. The pack needs to know you weren’t disowned.”
“How about I make a public announcement that I wasn’t disowned… I walked away.”
He scowled. “And what reason would you tell them? No one abandons a Beta title for nothing.”
“How about the truth? How you turned against me and-”
“Shut up. I’m helping you. I will convince Dad to accept you again after you apologize.”
“I don’t need your help, Damon. You’re the one desperate to drag me back, but your ego won’t let
you
admit it. My name is Fiona. I have erased every tie with your family. I’d rather sleep in the forest than return to the people who crushed me.”
He growled, fists tightening. “We only treated Lydia nicely. That made you bitter!”
I laughed softly. “Let me tell you something.” I stepped closer. “I had a vision. In it, Lydia killed me. You supported her. I begged you to investigate, but you all ignored me. In the end, Lydia burned me to ashes… your golden sister.”
His eyes widened briefly before the emotion vanished. “It was a nightmare. Everyone has nightmares. You hated Lydia, so your mind created that.”
“As usual, you defend her.” My voice was sharp. “I gave you evidence that she framed me for murder. You still backed her. Not once did you scold her. Do you ever think about how I felt? The isolation? The rejection?”
“Is that enough reason to become a prostitute and join some bad gang for money? Don’t deny it. You can’t explain where your money comes from.”
“It’s none of your business,” I scoffed.
“People still see you as my sister.”
“Then deal with it.”
“You will regret not taking this chance to make peace with your family.”
