Chapter 33
Finishe
It was surprising to me that Lance was the first to admit defeat and apologise, but I know why. He already understood the stakes now. This whole lie against me wouldn’t just damage his reputation; it would stain the trust the pack and the academy placed in him. Someone training for enforcement couldn’t afford to ! reckless with accusations, not when justice was meant to be his future.
Lance had always had a temper, but he wasn’t blind to right and wrong. His weakness had always been Lydia because around her, his judgement bent too easily.
With Elbert’s reminder hanging in the air and the proof laid bare, he had no choice but to take responsibility for his words. If he didn’t, everything he’d worked toward would become a joke.
“Fiona, we are sorry. It was all out of anger and frustration.” Damon paused, his arms crossed. “We will make it public that you didn’t steal anything from the family.”
Lydia froze at their sudden shift, which seemed to be eating her up, but does she have a choice?
I watched her lower her head quickly, her voice soft and careful. “I’m sorry, Fiona. Raina. We misunderstood you. This is our fault.”
She paused, then added, “As for compensation… just name the amount. We’ll cover it.”
I smirked, and the amount I called made her face red in anger, but they didn’t even let her argue before it was settled without argument.
Damon transferred the money immediately, and the case was dropped.
When we stepped out of the station, Raina’s hand stayed locked in mine, and I didn’t look back. Not once. even when my brothers were behind.
“Fiona.” Damon called after me, but I kept walking.
People like him never had anything worth hearing anymore since he would rather cat sand than accept the wrong they did to me. First was Lydia accusing me of attempting to kill her; now, they all ganged up and accused me of stealing the family money and also lying that I was into prostitution.
All today really hurts.
He rushed forward, leaving others behind. “I’m sorry,” he muttered to me, so quietly it barely registered
I felt the weight of that shame settle on him, heavy and suffocating, especially with his Beta badge still gleaming against his chest like a reminder of what he was supposed to stand for
My brother.
I didn’t reply as I headed to the car.
“Lance?” Lydia asked softly. “What did you say to her?”
“Nothing,” I heard him reply, but I didn’t care.

Behind us, Lydia spoke again, her voice full of carefully crafted remorse.
Finished
“Why don’t you go after Fiona and try to bring her back to the family? She’s all alone now. This whole mess happened because we misunderstood her. No wonder she wanted to leave…”
I glanced back, and she twisted her face as if she genuinely hated herself at that moment.
“Sometimes I wish I wasn’t even part of this family,” she said with a sniff, tears already in her eyes.
Lance softened immediately, reaching for her.
“Don’t say that. You’re the true Beta daughter, and that will never change. Yes, we were wrong about Fiona’s source of income, but she’s already made her choice of abandoning the family, and she is dead to us.”
His words found a way of clenching my chest as I wondered if they had all forgotten how badly they treated me.
I tightened my grip on the car keys in my hand and took a deep breath. “The chapter of my life that involved them is closed.” I said to myself.
I slid into my car and drove, the engine purring beneath my fingers like a promise. With the compensation sitting cleanly in my account, I had no hesitation spending it.
I took Raina straight to Sky Dining, the most exclusive restaurant in Slosa after the Nightingale bar.
“Fiona-” Raina stopped herself and laughed softly. “…maybe we shouldn’t splurge. You might need the money later.”
“Half of it is yours anyway,” I said, smiling. “And I’ve never been to Sky Dining. I want to go. Let this be our celebration.”
She hesitated, then nodded. “Okay.”
Sky Dining sat atop the hundredth floor, glass walls opening to a sea of stars and city lights below. The river cut through Slosa like silver, the suspension bridge glowing in the distance.
The staff greeted me with quiet respect, scanning my code and leading us straight to the window table
Raina stared around, stunned.
“This place is… unreal.”
“You’re the VIP tonight,” I told her. “Order whatever you want.”
She did, choosing dishes she knew I liked. Just a few plates cost thousands. Then I added a bottle of red wine worth more than most people’s rent.
“Keeping Lance’s money feels wrong,” I said lightly. “So I’m spending all of it. That’s how you take power
back.”
Raina laughed, raising her glass.
“I’m with you. You don’t need anyone’s money to shine.”
