“If Fiona ends up getting dragged off by the cops, won’t that make the Jensons look bad in front of everyone?” Lisa added, and I realised I was wrong. She didn’t care about me; her biggest concern was the family’s image would look.
But Daphne was way too angry to care. “I won’t leave here until this foolish girl is arrested for attempt murder on me. The same thing she did to Lydia!”
“Oh?” Alfie answered Daphne’s outburst with just one calm word, then his sharp, teasing eyes locked c
“Is what she’s saying true?”
I didn’t flinch. “There’s security footage. Please go and watch it. She tried to hit my friend first. I just stepped in to protect her.”
“Of course. The footage!” Alfie snapped his fingers and nodded.
Sky Dining was one of the best restaurants in Slosa, famous for running like clockwork.
Even the manager never bowed or tried to please rich women from the Alpha, Beta or Gamma family.
When Daphne heard about the footage, she started to look uneasy, but it was too late.
The next minute, we were all watching the whole video captured by the CCTV through his iPad,
After watching, Alfie turned to Daphne. “Ma’am, the footage shows exactly what this young lady said. Yo clearly struck first. She only defended herself.”
The proof was obvious.
Daphne argued anyway. “I–I only meant to scare her! I wasn’t actually going to hit her! Look at my wrist she did this to me. How can you call that self–defence?”
I smiled faintly without warmth. “Did you even go to school?”
“What did you say?!” She barked.
“According to Section 736 of the Criminal Code, any proper response to an attack counts as self–defence grabbed your wrist to stop you. That’s it–no back–and–forth fight
“If that’s not self–defence, then what is? Guess you’re not that smart, huh?”
Daphne was so furious she could barely breathe. “Who do you think you are!! No one has ever talked to me like this since I was a kid!”
Before marrying Ryan, Alpha Kane Brother, Daphne had been a spoilt daughter from a rich family. After marrying into the Alpha family, she became one of the most respected and untouchable women in the pack.
“Fiona, what kind of nonsense is this? How dare you talk to her like that? Apologise to Daphne right now!”

Lisa’s voice was cold and sharp as she wondered why Fiona doesn’t know her place anymore. “You thi you are tough now and can insult anyone, huh?”
“If I weren’t close friends with Daphne, your stupid little outburst would’ve gotten you blacklisted and ruined your social life in Slosa. I can’t protect you, and your father wouldn’t risk the relationship with Alpha for a daughter who had already cut ties.”
I was disappointed. A few minutes ago, I thought she had come back to her senses, but no, she was stil weak–ass licker protecting the family image at my expense.
‘So this is the kind of mother you are? Taking the enemy’s side and making your daughter apologise v she’s the one who was attacked? Lisa, as Mrs Jenson, you’ve totally failed. If this got out, everyone wou laugh at you!
‘You call yourself my mother, but you can’t even protect me from being mistreated? Don’t even say m name. I’m disgusted!”
‘Fiona!”
Lisa’s nails dug into my palms as she glared, her eyes red with rage.
‘Your father was right! Compared to Lydia, you’re a failure!
‘I never thought I’d have such a selfish, unreasonable daughter!
‘I used to feel guilty about you, but not anymore–and that’s all because of you!
‘I wish I’d never had you, never trained you, or that you had died during childbirth! Why are you still he ruining my life?”
Her voice dripped venom.
‘Fiona …” Raina’s face went pale as she called me. She didn’t even argue with Lisa as she took my hand.
I could tell she was afraid my heart might shatter completely.
Even Raina, an outsider, felt crushed just hearing the words from my own mother. For me, who had been starving for family love, it was really unbearable.
I couldn’t keep the faint smile on her face, and slowly it disappeared, bit by bit. My chest actually hurt, ears blurring my vision.
Why am I so weak?
I’ve already suffered so much pain and heartbreak in my last life.
I promised myself I wouldn’t waste tears on people who don’t deserve them. Not anymore
But I wasn’t as unshakeable as I acted.
A wound was still a wound. Even if I covered it up, the scar stayed–and sometimes it throbbed, dragging me back to that ugly, shameful past.

Still, I had promised myself never to show weakness in front of anyone again.
“Lisa…. I also regret ever calling you Mom. Yeah, maybe sometimes I wish I were dead. But I’m still here. breathing and fighting.
“That’s just how it is. From now on, my life has nothing to do with the Jensons or the Beta family. It’s on going up from here.
‘I’m not getting weak and regretful. I’m only getting stronger. Bet that really gets under your skin, Mrs Jenson!”
I swallowed the ache in my chest and forced the words out.
“This time, I won’t forgive. I’ll never forgive this so–called “family” for what they did to me.
“The cuts, the humiliation, the countless nights I cried because of their coldness, the way it burnt—I’ll never forget. Not even if I die.”
She froze when she saw the pure hatred burning in my eyes, and her face went pale with regret that was already too late.
“Gosh, why did I say those things? I was blinded by anger. It wasn’t really what I meant at all. Or more accurately… I’ve never said anything so cruel before. Not ever. Yet I said it to my daughter.” She mumble but I scoffed and turned away.
Her tone showed she had suddenly felt crushed by her words, filling her with a sharp, heavy regret. But
who cares…?
“Lisa, you’re right. What good is a daughter like Fiona? She’s not even worth a fraction of Lydia.”
Daphne said with a satisfying smile, as she must have been waiting for when my mother and everyone would cut me off for good.
She must have worried my mother would feel sorry and choose me again, but today, things had blown up exactly the way she wanted.
“No … Daphne, I—” Lisa tried to explain. “It isn’t really how I feel just said all that out of anger!”
“Wow. I didn’t think the top two families in the pack could be this nasty.”
Alfie clapped slowly, his sharp gaze dripping with disgust as they switched from Lisa to Daphne. He had been silent, listening to all the vile words from my own mother.
Even he–carefree and usually obsessed with gossip–looked sickened.
That alone said how bad Lisa and Daphne had acted.
“What did you just say?! You’re just a restaurant manager–who do you think you are, talking to me and
Lisa like that?
“Get your boss right now! I’m filing a complaint! I want you fired!”

Daphne’s temper snapped. “What’s going on tonight? First, that lowborn, Fiona, dared to talk back; now even the restaurant manager? Everyone has lost their minds!”
“How scary. Prince Daren, your aunt wants to fire me. I’m shaking.”
Alfie’s eyes shifted toward a corner of the restaurant, a sly smile on his lips.
Daren?
Daphne froze as she turned and saw him. She never knew he was in the restaurant all this while and had probably heard everything.
Daren stood up slowly, hands in his pockets as he walked over, his feral wolf at the surface, giving him a dangerous aura and look.
Raina’s reaction was instant–like a mouse spotting a cat. She held her breath and slipped behind me.
