The Beta's Rejected Daughter (Fiona) novel Chapter 37

Chapter 37

Daren’s POV

Fini

I had learnt very early in life that power didn’t announce itself. It arrived quietly, settled into the room and forced everyone else to adjust. That was how my father ruled. That was how I had been trained to after him.

Which was why, standing inside Sky Dining and watching my aunt disgrace herself in front of half the elite customers, I felt something colder than anger.

Disappointment.

Even Lisa, who never stopped boasting about her seven sons, would have to admit that none of them could stand where I stood. Not in presence, not in restraint, and certainly not in judgement. Alphas like me weren’t raised to compete. We were raised to end competitions before they began.

The moment I walked into this restaurant, I felt it. That sharp tightening in my chest, the low hum of n wolf stirring beneath my skin because I saw Fiona but I pretended not to care.

Now I was angry. Truly angry at how Daphne and her mother had talked to her. When Alfie called me. I used that opportunity to show up, and my wolf was fighting to break out and deal with them.

I hadn’t come here looking for Fiona and had only stopped by Sky Dining for food, but I found her here It made me happy that she had sorted the police case. My plan was to meet her after eating, but instead. met this chaos, accusations, and a public spectacle that had already crossed too many lines.

And in the middle of it all stood Fiona, who was calm and not begging.

Not shaking.

Hurt, yes, but refusing to show it. That alone set her apart from every other woman I’d ever met in this city.

I stepped forward before I fully realised I’d decided to intervene.

I just came to eat,I said calmly, my voice carrying weight without effort. Didn’t expect to see you humiliating yourself, Aunt Daphne,

Her face stiffened instantly, as she knew that tone I used. A dangerously calm one that comes before disaster. Everyone in the family knew.

You have three seconds,I continued, eyes locked on her. Leave. Don’t come back here today

I let the silence stretch before finishing. Or you’ll regret it.

Fear finally surfaced in her eyes. Real fear that she could barely hide.

Daphne had power, money, and influence, but there were only a handful of people in Slosa she truly feared. I was one of them. Still, pride made her hesitate.

Daren,” she said, trying to regain control. I’m still your aunt. Is that how you speak to family?

I’d given her the direct entry card without a real explanation because I really don’t know why either. People assumed it was favouritism. Some whispered it was for a onenight stand.

They could only gossip behind my back.

Just hours ago, I had also promised to help her out of the police case.

Something about her was pulling a string nobody else could.

I stepped closer now and leaned in. You alright?

She nodded. Yeah. I’m fine.” A smile graced her face, but I could see she wasn’t fine after the hurtful wor by her own mother.

But I love that she didn’t let it break her.
