The Beta's Rejected Daughter (Fiona) novel Chapter 42

Chapter 42

Fiona POV

:..

The moment I walked into the lecture hall, I felt it.

Not sound or movement but attention.

Every pair of eyes lifted, following me as if my presence alone had disturbed the air. Conversations thinned, whispers trailing off halfway through sentences, and I could almost hear people thinking.

So that’s her.

The real Beta daughter.

The one who caused all that trouble.

I didn’t slow down, as I’d learnt long ago that hesitation only fed curiosity. I kept my head up and walked straight in, my grip tightening slightly when Raina caught my sleeve and tugged me toward the back.

Fiona, don’t mind the stares, she whispered.

I know,I said quietly. They’re just curious, and I don’t care.

I really didn’t care because people who didn’t matter had never mattered. Not when I was a poor, weak, wolfless girl, and certainly not now.

We took our seats for the first lecture of the day, but something feltoff, and I felt like today was going to be a special day.

Then the door opened, and I expected Professor Shaun Manning, who was going to teach us history, but instead, a stranger walked in first.

He was tall and broadshouldered. Every step measured and unhurried, yet heavy enough to command the room without effort. He wore dark clothes, perfectly tailored, and when his eyes swept across the hall, I felt it deep in my bones.

That pressure, instinct and danger.

Even my fingers curled against the desk. This wasn’t just authority, but dominance, like he was meant to control everyone.

Shaun followed a step behind him, and for the first time since I’d known Shaun, he didn’t look like the one in charge because this man had overshadowed everything.

My heart skipped once as I stared into those eyes.

This isn’t normal,Raina muttered under her breath, and she was right, but I couldn’t pinpoint what.

Shaun cleared his throat. Before we begin, I’d like to introduce a new lecturer joining us this semester.

The word lecturerbarely registered.

This is Professor Carl,Shaun continued. He’ll be overseeing special evaluations and advanced trials. He has a special relationship with the proprietor and owners of this school, so you know what it means.

That introduction was important because it meant we are bound to respect him or risk being suspended or even expelled.

My gaze snapped back to the man. Carl.

The name hit something inside mean echo I didn’t fully understandand my wolf stirred uneasily, alert in a way it hadn’t been all day.

He inclined his head slightly, not in a polite or warm way but in a controlled way, as if he owned the school himself.

Take your seats and be silent,he said. His voice was low and even, and it carried weight effortlessly across the room without a microphone.

Everyone obeyed instantly, including me, and I could notice the admiration in every female

eye.

I didn’t remember deciding to straighten my posture, but I did.

Carl looked around again, and when his gaze brushed over me, it lingered for just a fraction of a second longer than the others, and I felt exposed. Seen.

I don’t believe in wasting time,he said. So I’ll be direct.”

My pulse picked up.

This won’t be a regular class for today but a test of strength and capability.

A few students shifted nervously.

I’ve reviewed your curriculum,he continued. It’s too safe and too predictable.

Shaun adjusted his glasses but didn’t interrupt.

In my world,Carl went on calmly, potential is tested under pressure, and I am here to train you for it.

My breath caught.

What world was he talking about?

Lycan.

The word wasn’t spoken, but I felt it and didn’t know why.

Maybe because of the weight of his presence, in the way my instincts screamed that this man was not someone you challenged lightly. I would have sworn he was the lycan king, but nothing about his face hinted that.

Today,he said, I’ll be giving you a challenge.”

The room froze.

If you pass,he continued, you’ll be promoted to the senior category and will quickly become a fullblown werewolf.

Gasps rippled through the hall, and my heart slammed once.

If you fail,he added, you walk away with nothing and end up as the weak wolf you are!

Raina leaned toward me, eyes wide. Fionathis is insane.”

Yes, it is, but it was also an opportunity to enter the senior category immediately instead of waiting a year later….something I could only imagine. That would mean I would join my former brothers and Lydia in their category to train at the top level as a strong royal wolf.A huge smirk tugged my lips.

I needed to win this challenge to show them I could level up so quickly and wasn’t the inferior Beta daughter.

God, Fiona, I want this for you! Imagine Lydia’s shock seeing you reach their level in a day!
