Fiona POV
By common sense, someone like Lance—with his huge body, wide shoulders, and scary don’t–mess–with- me look–was exactly the kind of guy Raina should’ve avoided.
But for me, Raina was willing to risk it all.
“Sorry, Fiona. Dad really lost it earlier, but please understand. He was just too worried about Damon.
I stared at Lance like I’d seen a ghost.
Even Raina looked stunned.
Lance.
The same Lance who used to explode like a volcano. The same Lance who once called me a thief. who had no problem shaming me in front of strangers and tearing me down in public.
And today?
He was apologizing to me.
Calmly. Steadily. Without a single trace of that usual fiery temper.
It was as if he’d been replaced by someone else.
He didn’t even feel like the Lance I remembered.
‘I know you’re shocked. That day, I lost control. I blamed you for something you didn’t do.
And yeah–I do feel guilty about it. My temper’s bad, sure, but I’m not blind or brain–dead.”
His jaw tightened.
I stared at him like some dumb musclehead, running only in rage, punching first and thinking never
But I knew that wasn’t truly who he was.
If Lance were really that stupid, how could he have graduated high school as the top student? How could he be on the verge of completing his degree with perfect scores? How could he be the best candidate to become the Pack enforcer among so many others?
No.
He wasn’t stupid.
He had just snapped back then because it was about Lydia–the sister he adored, his fragile little princess
That was the only reason.
“Heh…”
I let out a sharp, mocking laugh as I thought through.
But he was a devil.
All of them.
#
Calling them blind or brain–dead was generous. Their hearts were poisoned–eaten up by something dark and ugly.
How else could they treat their real little sister with such cruelty?
How else could they toss me aside while drowning Lydia–the pampered, precious foster daughter–in endless love and protection?
Their choice had come with a cost.
And that cost was me.
They humiliated me, broke me, pushed me into depression, drove me again and again to the edge of hurting myself—of ending it all.

But this time?
Seeing his eldest son unconscious, feeling the family’s security threatened, hatred for me boiling over- that had pushed him past reason.
So the solution for Lance as always, was money.
As long as the price was right, everything could be wiped clean.
Raina hesitated to talk, her lips parting.
Although she hated Lance and wanted to run as far from him as possible, but she also wanted peace.
More than anything, she didn’t want me dragged back into the Jensons‘ fire. She didn’t want me hurt again. She was already deeply moved that I’d stood up for her, demanded Russell’s apology directly.
That alone should’ve been enough.
Still I wasn’t satisfied.
