Chapter 360

“Eric!” Chloe shouted.

Chloe was frozen in shock, watching as Eric’s white coat was stained red with blood.

She had never expected Eric to take a stab for her.

Eric shielded Chloe in his embrace, only letting go after the attacker was completely subdued.

He then ordered the people around him to quickly clear the hallway, disperse the onlookers, and hand the attacker over to the police.

An hour later, Eric was taken to a hospital room.

Eric knew Chloe was still on duty and understood her concerns.

He said to her, “Go ahead and finish your shift. Come see me after work.”

Chloe was filled with gratitude. “I’ll get back to work. If you want anything, just message me on WhatsApp. I’ll pick it up for you after I get off.”

Around five in the evening, Chloe finished her shift and headed to Eric’s hospital room.

When she was at the door to the hospital room, Chloe could hardly believe that no one from the Jordan family had shown up yet.

The hospital was run by the Jordan family, and a ton of people there had ties to the Jordan family. With all the buzz about what happened, there was no way the Jordan family didn’t know.

Chloe was puzzled but didn’t dare ask.

She knocked and entered Eric’s room. He was the only one inside.

Eric was lying on his side in a hospital gown, talking on the phone.

After Eric hung up, Chloe walked over and asked, “Eric, about the woman who died giving birth… Was it really

that serious?”

Eric reassured her, “Honestly, this kind of thing happens everywhere. Every hospital deals with a few family dramas every year. It’s already sorted out.”

Chloe felt a lot more at ease.

Even though Eric played it off like it was nothing, stuff like this always negatively impacted the hospital, no matter what.

Eric could see that Chloe was still worried.

He said, “The woman already had some underlying health issues. She was turned away by another hospital right before she went into labor, so they sent her here.

“Our medical team did everything they could to save the baby. Out of compassion, the hospital paid thirty thousand dollars in compensation.

“I’ve already given the family a letter of understanding, and they’ve calmed down.

“Our staff have a clear conscience about how they treated both the patient and her family, so there’s really no reason for them to keep making a scene.”

Chloe couldn’t help but admire the way Eric handled things.

No matter what, the hospital was the one taking the hit, but Eric didn’t complain at all. He not only paid compensation but also gave the family who attacked him a letter of understanding.

She was impressed by his broad-mindedness and integrity, thinking he was indeed a man.

But Chloe couldn’t help but remind him, “Eric, your arm is your livelihood as a surgeon. If something like this happens again, don’t be so reckless, okay?”

Eric sat down on the edge of the bed, wincing in pain.

He lifted his head to meet Chloe’s eyes and said, “Even if I lost the use of my arm, I’d still do it. I have to protect the one I love.”

Their eyes met, and Eric’s intense gaze made Chloe’s heart skip a beat.

Chloe joked, “Guess I’m not signing up for a boyfriend with a busted arm.”

Eric blurted out, “If my arm really got ruined, no matter how much I liked you, I wouldn’t let you suffer because of me.”

Chloe couldn’t help but feel genuinely touched.

Eric gently took Chloe’s hand and carefully got up. “Chloe, I really like you. Would you be my girlfriend?”

He watched her anxiously, waiting for her answer.

His sudden confession left Chloe completely stunned.

She was frozen in place, totally caught off guard and unable to respond.

When Chloe stayed silent for a long moment, Eric got so nervous his palms started to sweat. “Would you give me a shot? Even just to try?” he asked.

Chloe could feel how sincere Eric was and also noticed his hands were a little sweaty.

Even though Andrea was out of the picture, Chloe didn’t have any other worries about Eric.

The Jordan family had a great vibe, and she and Eric always had plenty to talk about at work. Plus, there was

definitely something between them now.

Since Eric suggested giving it a shot, Chloe thought, ‘Alright. Let’s see how it goes.’

She cleared her throat and said to Eric, “But you better not get all lovey-dovey with me at work.”

“Are you saying yes?” Eric couldn’t help but interrupt, his excitement obvious.

They were standing so close, eyes locked, and Chloe mumbled a quiet “mm-hmm”, her cheeks turning pink.

Eric finally felt the weight lift off his chest.

He wrapped his arm around Chloe in a joyful hug, grinning from ear to ear. “Yeah! I finally have a girlfriend.”

A few people were totally enjoying the show at the doorway.

Antonio thumped his chest and chuckled, “Finally! Eric’s not single anymore.”

Hanna tugged at her husband. “Let’s hurry home and get a welcome gift ready for Eric’s future wife.”

Jude pouted. “Come on. Nothing’s official yet. Aren’t you guys getting ahead of yourselves?”

Gerardo shot Jude a glare. “You’re single, so you don’t get a say.”

Jude was rendered wordless.

Sophie was about to knock on the door with a lunchbox. “Let’s go feed Eric.”

Hazel grabbed her arm. “Missing one meal won’t kill him.”

“What are you all doing here?” Two nurses came over to change Eric’s bandages and caught the group peeking

at the door.

The Jordans turned around, and the nurses were startled.

They thought, ‘Gosh! These are all big shots.’

The Jordans instantly put on their best faces, trying to look dignified.

The nurses knocked, and the Jordans walked into the room.

Chloe nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw the Jordans at the door, instinctively pushing Eric aside.

Eric collapsed back onto the bed with a muffled grunt.

Chloe felt tongue-tied.

‘Wait, I didn’t even push that hard… did I?’ she thought.

Antonio rushed over to see if Eric’s stitches had come undone.
