Hugo almost choked on his food as Penny suddenly jumped onto the stool beside him. He turned, brows knitting when he saw the excitement plastered on her face.

"Whatever it is, Penny..." he sighed, shoving his hand into his pocket. Then, with a slap on the table, a folded bill was placed on top. "This is all the money I have. What are the odds?"

Penny’s lips stretched from ear to ear. "First Sister is taking her first mission in the Order." She snatched the bill instantly, eyes gleaming. "You’re betting she’s going to fail."

"I pulled an all-nighter," Penny grumbled. "Do you know what it feels like to leave your company for a month and have four assistants nagging you equally when you return? I should fire Patricia."

"Leave the girl alone." Kiara set the pitcher and glass near them, then looked between her husband and sister-in-law. "And also, I know exactly what it feels like to run a company and leave it. But I always leave my company whenever my husband returns. So before I say anything that will make you seethe in rage... change your brother’s bet."

Penny puffed out her cheeks, glaring at her. Hugo, meanwhile, smiled from ear to ear and extended his open palm like a saint.

"Tsk." She slapped the bill back into her brother’s rough hand, only for Hugo to immediately close his fingers around hers.

"Penny, I bet that First Sister-in-law will complete this mission without breaking a sweat." He nodded confidently. "For once, let me win these bets."

"I bet she’ll complete it," Kiara added, ignoring Penny entirely. "Same amount as my husband."

"Penny, betting within the family is going to be hard," Hugo sighed, leaning his muscular arms against the edge of the counter, revealing scars from old battles visible. "Everyone is going to bet on First Sister-in-law acing this mission flawlessly."

He blinked at her, and Penny’s mouth curved downward. "That’s exactly why I’m making you the scapegoat of this bet."

"Then why not include others?" Kiara suggested as she drank her water, giving Penny a knowing look. "You don’t have to tell them about First Sister or the Secret Society. Just make it a game... or something."

"..." Penny blinked. Then blinked again.

She stared at Kiara’s raised brow and Hugo’s encouraging nod. Slowly, a gigantic grin bloomed on Penny’s face, eyes sparkling with mischief.

"I just had an idea. I wonder if Lily is still awake!"

The moment those words left her mouth, she bolted out of the room. On the way, she nearly collided with her father, Charles.

"Penny—" Charles grabbed her shoulders to keep her from slamming into him. His brows drew together, his tired eyes squinting. "Where have you been?"

Penny smiled and gave his shoulder a little pat. "Dad, give me money later. I’ll bet for you."

Before he could ask anything else, she skipped past him to execute her newfound scheme.

Charles, utterly confused, continued into the kitchen. "What is it this time?" he asked, pointing back toward the hallway.
