Trevor looked back at Zachary before asking carefully, trying not to sound nosy, "Sir, you still have her number saved?"
Zachary didn’t answer. His gaze remained fixed on the vibrating phone, his expression calm and his emotion unreadable.
Then he cast a brief glance toward Trevor, who immediately knew his boss was signaling for him to leave the room.
Trevor immediately nodded to excuse himself. Without saying a word, he quickly gathered the documents from the desk. He rushed out, closing the door behind him as quietly as possible.
Silence filled the room once again.
The phone continued ringing, but Zachary made no move to answer it. He simply sat there, watching the screen until the call finally ended and the office became quiet again.
Leaning back in his chair, he let out a slow breath, his eyes still fixed on the darkened screen.
A few moments later, Zachary finally rose from his chair. He picked up his cell phone and headed toward the office door, intending to leave for home. However, after only a few steps, his phone rang again.
"What do you want this time?" He muttered under his breath, obviously irked, assuming the caller was the same as before. With a trace of irritation, he pulled the phone from his pocket and was about to reject the call. Just before his thumb touched the screen, though, he noticed the caller’s name.
My Pretty Wife.
The irritation on his face disappeared instantly, replaced by a beaming, warm smile.
"Hello, my pretty wife," he greeted affectionately as he walked toward his private elevator. "Did you miss me already?"
On the other end, Sienna let out a soft laugh. "Honey, did I interrupt you?"
The simple way she called him Honey immediately brightened his mood.
"Not at all," Zachary replied as the elevator doors opened. He stepped inside and pressed the button for the ground floor. "For my wife, I always have time. Besides, I’m already on my way home."
"I thought you were still busy."
"I am. But then my wife called, so now I’m less busy."
"You make it sound like your job is so easy."
"It is."
For a brief moment, neither of them spoke.
But then Zachary heard Sienna take a slow, heavy breath. The smile on his face faded. He knew her well enough to recognize that sigh—something was wrong.
"What’s wrong?" he asked gently, his tone immediately turning serious. "Did something happen?"
There was another short silence before Sienna finally spoke. "Honey..."
"Yes?"
"I just wanted to ask you something."
"Go ahead."
"...Are you punishing my father?"
The unexpected question made Zachary frown. He answered without hesitation. "No." His voice remained calm and steady. "You know I never planned to deal with him, don’t you?"
"Hmm... I know."
"My wife," he said softly, "I promised you before. As long as your father doesn’t hurt you or threaten you directly, I won’t do anything to him."
He waited for her response, but she remained unusually quiet.
Even without seeing her, Zachary could almost picture her standing somewhere with her brows knitted together, thinking too much. He had seen that expression enough times to recognize it.
"Did you read the news about the Black Scorpion Gang?" he asked. "Did it make you anxious?"
"No."
This time, her answer came more quickly.
