The Bond Between Us (Anastasia and Herman) novel Chapter 1093

Once a seed of doubt takes root, it grows wild—spreading everywhere before you know it.

Juliana clenched her fists so tightly her knuckles went white. She wasn’t the type to keep her head down or swallow her anger, and patience had never been her virtue. Without hesitation, she marched over and blocked the nanny, who was just about to step into the elevator.

The nanny’s eyes went wide, panic written all over her face. “M-Mrs. Lancaster, you’re here too?”

“What’s that you’re holding?” Juliana snapped, snatching the bag from the nanny’s hands. Her voice was sharp and commanding, leaving no room for argument. “Where did you get the money for this? What’s your connection with Anastasia? Did she pay you? Why? Tell me everything—now.”

The nanny looked completely lost. “Mrs. Lancaster, I bought this myself with my savings. Are you talking about Mrs. Salstrom? I don’t even know her. We just bumped into each other earlier, that’s all. She didn’t give me any money.”

“Still lying, are you?” Juliana’s voice rang out, loud and harsh, drawing stares from passersby in the crowded mall. “You’re a nanny. You expect me to believe you can afford Chanel? If you don’t start telling the truth, I’ll take you straight to the police.”

The nanny flushed with humiliation. “Mrs. Lancaster, it’s just two bottles of Chanel perfume—barely a few hundred bucks. Why wouldn’t I be able to afford it? I might work for you, but I still have my dignity. You can’t just accuse me like this.”

By now, a small crowd had gathered, watching the scene unfold.

Juliana, her voice trembling with emotion, shot back, “You think I’m making this up? You want to swear you haven’t done anything wrong? You know exactly what happened with my baby. Why were those stairs so slippery that day? Admit it—it was you, wasn’t it?”

The nanny blanched. She hadn’t caused Juliana’s fall, but she was responsible for cleaning. Maybe Juliana thought she’d been careless, that her mistake had led to the miscarriage.

“I’m sorry, Mrs. Lancaster, I really am,” the nanny stammered. “I cleaned those stairs, I swear. I don’t know how oil got there. I wiped them down twice.”

Juliana jumped at the words, twisting them to fit her own narrative. “So it was you! You evil woman! You killed my baby! How could you be so heartless? Was it Anastasia who put you up to this? I’m taking you to the police—let’s see if you can pay for what you’ve done!”

Blinded by grief and rage, Juliana lunged at the nanny, striking her with all the force of a mother who’d lost her only child. The pain and hatred boiled over—she would never have another chance to be a mom.
