He was ready to make it up to Juliana, even give her a bigger share of their assets. He just couldn’t face her explosive moods day after day.

Juliana stared at him, eyes wide with shock and brimming with disappointment. “Scott, did you ever… actually love me?”

Typical, he thought. Even when a man is asking for a divorce, a woman still wants to know if it was ever love.

But if a man really loved you, would he be walking away, willing to lose so much just to be free?

Women always find ways to fool themselves.

Scott frowned. “Juliana, there’s no point talking about that now. Let’s just settle the divorce. You can have the house. As for everything else—the money, the company shares—I’ll get professionals to do a fair split.”

“Scott, are you out of your mind?” Juliana’s voice was sharp, desperate. “Do you even realize what splitting the company means? How much we could lose—hundreds of millions! Who is she, Scott? Who could make you so determined to leave me?”

She was furious, but mostly she just needed to know who had taken Scott from her.

Scott didn’t mention Sandy. Not a word.

Juliana’s anger flared. “What is it about me that’s so wrong? I can change, okay? Can’t we just not get a divorce? I even said you could see someone else—what more do you want from me?”

“Juliana, I’ll give you time to think. When you’re ready, reach out to my lawyer.” Scott’s voice was calm, almost eerily so. “I’m sorry.”

“I don’t want your apology…” Juliana grabbed his arm. “Please, Scott…”

He pulled away. “I have things to do. Think it over. You have three days.”

He left without another word.

Juliana collapsed, screaming after him, “Scott! You’ll regret this!”

He didn’t look back. She sank to the floor, sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.

Unbeknownst to her, Layna had overheard their entire argument from outside the room.

If Juliana lost Scott, sticking by her would get Layna nowhere.

Layna glanced coldly at Juliana, sprawled and broken in the living room. Pathetic, she thought. Can’t even keep her own husband.
