Nora was in no mood to waste words on Aaron. She walked past him, changed her shoes, and grabbed some ingredients from the fridge, handing them to Nathan.
“Here.”
“If you have anything else at your place, you can add it.”
“Do you have sauce?”
Nathan took the items and nodded. “I do.”
Nora grunted in acknowledgment. “Good.”
Nathan gave a slight wave. “Get some rest.”
With that, he turned and walked straight to the apartment opposite hers.
As his door opened, Aaron, who had been completely ignored, finally snapped back to reality. He didn’t say anything at first, instead slipping inside Nora’s apartment just as she was about to close the door.
“Nora, why didn’t you tell me your captain lives right across from you?”
Nora shot him an impatient glance. “What is it you want?”
Aaron pouted. “I told you, didn’t I? I came to make you a late-night snack.”
He pulled Nora into the kitchen and pointed to the pot of soup simmering on the stove. “You worked so late. I made some soup for you so you can eat before you go to sleep.”
Aaron gazed at Nora, his eyes full of affection. “Nora, I know I’ve neglected you lately, but you have to believe me, you’re the only one for me.”
Nora’s brow twitched.
After seven years with Aaron, Nora knew him all too well. He only said things like this when he felt guilty.
