When she decided to start working here, she hadn’t received such meticulous treatment.
It figured. The top detective really got the star treatment.
The elevator stopped. Nora walked out first, took out her keys, and slipped into her apartment.
Hearing the door click shut, Nathan, who had just reached his own front door, paused.
He turned and stared at the closed door with his dark eyes for a long moment before keying in his code to enter.
The apartment was spotless and decorated in a style Nathan liked. He went to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator, finding it, as expected, stocked with water and some ready-to-eat meals.
He cracked open a bottle of water and chugged half of it before his phone finally buzzed.
He glanced at the caller ID and frowned slightly.
"Why are you still up?"
The person on the other end was taken aback by his cold tone. "You brat, I couldn't sleep waiting to hear from you!"
"Transferring just like that, do you even respect me as your grandfather? Why didn't you discuss it with me?"
Nathan walked over to the sofa and sat down. "There was nothing to discuss."
"You! You're going to be the death of me!"
He must have been truly furious, as a fit of uncontrollable coughing came through the phone.
Nathan's frown deepened. "Go get some rest. You don't need to worry about me."
"How can I not worry? You're the only grandson I have. Who else would I worry about? You've always had a mind of your own since you were a kid, never listening to anyone! I asked you to take over the company, but you insisted on going to the police academy. After graduation, you actually became a cop, and not just any cop, but a detective on the front lines! Your parents entrusted you to me when they passed. If anything happens to you, how am I supposed to face them when I'm gone?"
