Nora gave Nathan a suspicious look.
She suspected he was being sarcastic.
But she had no proof.
Nathan didn't seem inclined to talk more about it, starting the car and driving away from the hospital.
The ride back was quiet until the car stopped downstairs from her apartment, when Nora remembered something.
“What did Jacob want to talk to you about?”
Nathan said, “He just gave me a few more details about Robert’s family.”
“Did he really need to pull you aside just for that?”
Besides, it didn't seem like something that needed to be kept secret.
“It was a bit strange.”
Nathan glanced at Nora. Seeing her brow slightly furrowed as she was clearly lost in thought about the case, he reached out and patted her on the head.
“Hey—”
Nora looked up and glared at him. “What are you doing?”
Nathan said, “You’re sick, so you should be resting. The task force will handle the case.”
“I can't even think about it?”
“No.”
Nora was speechless.
What gave him the right to be so bossy?
Considering he was, after all, concerned about her, Nora refrained from saying anything harsh.
“I’m going up.”
“Okay.”
“I’ll keep you updated on any progress.”
A small smile played on Nora’s lips. “Well, thank you, Captain.”
Nathan watched Nora’s smiling face, his throat tightening as he swallowed hard.
His voice grew a bit hoarse. “You’re welcome.”
Nora didn't notice the change in Nathan and got out of the car.
Back home, Nora went straight to the bathroom to shower and wash her hair.
She had planned to take a nap in the morning, but when she came out after drying her hair, she heard her phone ringing nonstop.
Nora unlocked her phone and saw over a dozen missed calls.
