Before leaving, Nora gave Mr. Peyton Sr. a call.
"Nora?"
"Is there any progress on your mother's case?"
Nora was surprised the old man was still thinking about her mother. A warmth spread through her, and her tone softened. "She's with my father. Her life isn't in danger for now. He doesn't do anything unless there's something in it for him, so he won't let her go easily."
"That damn scumbag."
The old man couldn't help but complain. "He gives men a bad name!"
Nora felt no guilt about selling out her own father.
If she weren't in a hurry for something else, she would have joined the old man in cursing him out.
"I'm calling about something else today."
"Mr. Peyton, did my fiancé go to the police station?"
"You found out?"
Mr. Peyton Sr. was utterly shocked.
His grandson had been exposed already?
Good grief, he thought that since they hadn't met last time, this whole thing wouldn't be revealed until right before the wedding.
Although the old man had no idea what on earth his grandson was up to, it seemed his grandson's goal was aligned with his own.
So why should he worry? He might as well use the time to plan the wedding.
This was the wedding of his precious grandson and his hand-picked daughter-in-law. He was going to make it so grand the whole world would know about it!
Nora's heart skipped a beat when she heard the old man's answer.
"So he really went?"
"He did," Mr. Peyton Sr. said with a hint of resignation. "That boy never discusses his plans with me. By the time I found out, it was already a done deal."
"Nora, don't blame him. He's incredibly stubborn. Once he’s made up his mind, nothing on earth can sway him."
