Nora nodded and, seeing that it was getting late, quickly started packing her things.
“I went to pick him up yesterday and saw it with my own eyes.”
The assistant slapped her thigh. “No wonder that scumbag showed up at the station looking for you later! Is he insane? A real time-management expert, huh? How dare he come to the police station to find you? How disgusting can you get?”
“You have incredible self-control for not slapping him! If it were me, I would have charged in and given him a beating!”
Nora couldn’t help but smile at the assistant’s words. “My mom is still in his hospital. I’m planning to handle her transfer this afternoon. Once that’s done, I’ll break up with him.”
Julia, who knew about the situation, sighed. “Nora, if you need any help, just ask.”
Nora patted Julia’s shoulder. “It’s okay, I can handle it.”
The joy of Nora’s promotion was overshadowed by the sudden bombshell about the cheating.
Julia and the assistant helped Nora pack her things. At the door, they gave her a reluctant hug. “Nora, remember to come back and visit us often.”
Nora smiled helplessly. “I’m just transferring departments, not leaving for good.”
“But we’ll barely see you. Everyone’s already so busy, and now that you’re on the specialist group, you’ll probably have even more cases… Nora, you have to take care of yourself.”
Nora hadn’t felt particularly sentimental, but the assistant’s words made a lump form in her throat. “Okay, you two as well.”
Julia and the assistant still had work to do, so Nora didn’t let them walk her far.
As she stepped out of the Forensics Department, she saw a figure standing by the flowerbed near the entrance.
“Is this everything?”
Seeing Nora, Nathan walked over in a few steps and took the box from her hands.
There was a hint of surprise in Nora’s eyes. “How did you…”
She hadn’t sent Nathan a message at all.
