The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 20

“Yes.”

“Other colleagues have already verified that. On that day, Olivia had gone out with friends. Elias ran into her on her way home and abducted her.”

“Because it happened very close to where Olivia lived, at her cousin Dennis’s house, when Dennis realized she was late and went out to look for her, he immediately found Olivia’s body discarded like a rag doll in an alley.”

“It seems Elias finally came to his senses, so he chose to end his own life, claiming it was to atone for those he had wrongfully killed.”

Nora retorted angrily, “What kind of atonement is that?”

“How is his worthless life enough to atone for those innocent people?”

As a medical examiner, Nora had seen too many mutilated bodies.

She had also worked on many cases, some simple, some complex.

But whenever she was involved in these matters, she still found it hard to remain calm.

Elias raped and killed four people, then killed himself, thinking he could wash away his sins?

He wished.

He was dead and gone, but his family and the families of his victims would live in pain forever.

Who was going to pay for their suffering?

After her indignant outburst, Nora realized Nathan was still in the car. She blushed and said out of habit, “I’m sorry.”

Nathan glanced at her. “Why are you apologizing?”

Nora fiddled with her seatbelt, embarrassed. “Am I being too emotional?”

A medical examiner who had seen so much death was still getting worked up over something like this. Nathan probably thought she was being unprofessional.

After all, that’s what Aaron used to say whenever she talked about these things with him.

He’d said that if she kept this up, she would start letting her personal feelings affect her work, which would compromise her professional judgment.

Although Nora didn’t think she’d let her emotions interfere with her work, Aaron’s words weren’t entirely without merit.
