"What?" Mr. Devereaux shot out of his chair, utterly stunned. "That's impossible!"
When the incident first occurred, he had been thrown into a panic, but hours had passed, and he had completely regained his composure. He had already sent people to track down Nolan, though they had found nothing.
Mr. Devereaux wasn't a fool. His years in the cutthroat business world gave him a sharp intuition, and he knew this case was wildly complicated. If the child in Rosalind's womb was confirmed to be Nolan's, his son would never be able to wash away the suspicion of murder—especially while he was still missing.
Desperate, he looked over. "Dr. Hayes..."
Nora didn't waste time on pleasantries. She handed him the file. "This is the report."
Mr. Devereaux scanned the documents meticulously. He didn't understand all the medical jargon, but the line concluding that Nolan was the biological father was glaringly clear.
"This is impossible." Mr. Devereaux seemed to age a decade in seconds, his hands trembling as he gripped the paper. "I know my son. He's obsessed with his little hobbies and has zero interest in romance. If he actually liked Rosalind, he wouldn't have rejected the marriage alliance between our families. And even if there was an accidental pregnancy, he would never hide it from me. Furthermore, he was never alone with Rosalind in a room! There's no way he could have gotten her pregnant!"
Nora maintained her professional detachment. "Do you have proof to back up these claims?"
