“I hadn’t heard about that.”
Nora kept her eyes on the road ahead, her tone casual. “Nathan just got here, and he’s not familiar with anyone at the station, so I guess no one knew he was engaged.”
“That’s normal. He’s not the type to share his personal life. To be honest, I was shocked when I heard he was coming back to Luminport City.”
“I really didn’t think he’d agree to get married.”
Dennis grinned. “He’s a hopeless case when it comes to romance. His grandfather would introduce him to someone, and he’d ruin it every single time. For those of us who know him, it’s become an annual drama.”
“We’re all used to him putting up a fight every year.”
“I thought he’d reject it without a second thought this time, too, or maybe just have a final showdown with his grandfather. I never expected him to actually agree and quietly transfer back to Luminport City.”
“So…” Nora pursed her lips and asked with a hint of curiosity, “Do you know who his fiancée is?”
“That I really don’t know.”
Dennis clearly had a lot more to say on the topic.
Unfortunately, the coffee shop wasn't far from the police station, so he didn’t get to finish.
“I’ll tell you all about it next time we get a chance.”
“Once my cousin’s case is solved, I’ll treat you and Nathan to dinner, Ms. Hayes.”
Nora started to refuse.
But Dennis acted as if he hadn’t heard her.
“It’s settled, then. You have to come, Ms. Hayes.”
“Otherwise, none of us will dare to pick up our utensils.”
With that, Dennis started the car.
Nora wasn’t about to chase after his car just to turn down a dinner invitation.
Besides, she could just have Nathan pass along her regrets when the time came, so she didn’t give it much thought.
Turning around, she walked into the police station and went straight to the special task force office.
Just as Dennis drove out of the station's gate, his phone rang.
He answered it via Bluetooth, and Nathan’s voice filled the car.
