Chapter 247
Violet
One Week Later
I had officially learned two things about pregnancy.
One, I was exhausted constantly.
And two? Waiting was actual torture.
Because apparently, once you found out there was potentially a tiny human growing inside of you, your brain immediately decided every minor ache, cramp, emotion, or weird feeling was either completely normal or the end of the world. There was absolutely no in–between.
Unfortunately for me, Rowan was not helping either. At all… In fact, he had somehow become even more protective over the last week. It honestly seemed impossible because the man already looked at me like I was made of glass half the time. Now… he hovered, all the time.
Like how his hand automatically moved to my lower back every time we walked somewhere together. Or how he suddenly was making me drink water all the time. Or like how he researched prenatal nutrition and ordered several different brands, like he was preparing for a federal exam.
Just like yesterday, he stood in the supermarket with me and spent ten minutes staring at there was enough calcium in the yogurt for me to eat.
I had no idea if I should be concerned or impressed by this man.

Currently, Rowan sat beside me in the examination room, looking calmer than ever, but I knew him too well. He was anything but calm.
The room itself was warm and softly lit, far less clinical than I expected from an OB office. Soft ocean–themed artwork hung on the walls, while the ultrasound monitor sat beside us.
Dr. Elise Carter stood near the counter reviewing paperwork quietly while another doctor adjusted the ultrasound
equipment nearby.
Dr. Adrian Smith.
Apparently, once Rowan found out I was pregnant, every doctor in a fifty–mile radius suddenly became available. Funny
how money worked.

Chapter 247
Dr. Carter looked up first and smiled gently. “How have you been feeling this week?”
I immediately opened my mouth.
Then Rowan answered before I could. “Tired. Nauseous. Mild cramping Tuesday morning that lasted approximately fourteen minutes before resolving.”
I slowly turned toward him. “…Were you timing my cramps?”
His expression didn’t even change. “Yes.”
Dr. Carter pressed her lips together like she was trying not to laugh.
Across the room, Dr. Smith outright failed and snorted quietly,
I stared at Rowan. “You are insane.”
“You scared me.” The simple honesty in his voice immediately softened me.
Dr. Carter stepped closer then, her voice calm and reassuring. “Everything you’ve described sounds very normal for early pregnancy, Violet.”
I nodded slowly. Logically, I knew that. Emotionally? Absolutely not.
Dr. Smith adjusted the monitor slightly before glancing toward us. “At this stage, we’re mostly checking progression and
placement.” He smiled slightly. “So don’t panic if this doesn’t look like movie ultrasounds yet.”
Too late. Panic was currently my entire personality.
mine.

A few minutes later, I laid back against the bed while Rowan stayed seated beside me, one hand wrapped around
The gel hit my stomach and I immediately made a face. “Oh my God that’s freezing.”
Beside me Rowan frowned immediately like he’d personally been offended by the gel.
Dr. Smith laughed softly. “I promise it warms up eventually.”
The room slowly quieted after that while he moved the wand carefully across my
stomach.
And suddenly… Everything felt real again. Terrifyingly real. My heart started pounding harder while I stared at the monitor. Nobody spoke for several seconds.
Then finally, Dr. Smith pointed gently toward the screen. “There.”

Chapter 247
Both Rowan and I leaned forward immediately.
I squinted. “…Where?”
Dr. Carter smiled softly beside us and pointed toward a tiny dark area on the screen. “Right there.”
I stared harder.
And then… Oh. Oh my God. It wasn’t a baby yet. Not really. No little arms. No dramatic heartbeat. No tiny profile.
Just… A tiny little spec. Small. Fragile. Barely there. But there.
Tears instantly burned my eyes. “Oh my God.”
Beside me, Rowan had gone completely still. His eyes stayed locked on the monitor like he physically couldn’t look away.
Dr. Smith’s voice stayed calm and steady. “This is exactly what we’d expect around four to five weeks.”
I swallowed hard. “So everything’s okay?”
Dr. Carter nodded immediately. “Everything looks appropriate so far.”
Relief hit me so hard I nearly cried harder.
Dr. Smith pointed gently toward the screen again. “We wouldn’t expect a detectable heartbeat this early yet. Right now we’re confirming early development and placement.”
Beside me Rowan finally spoke for the first time in several minutes. “That’s our baby?”
And God… His voice. Quiet. Disbelieving. Like he couldn’t quite process it.
Dr. Carter smiled softly. “That tiny little blip?” She nodded. “Yes.”
I looked over at Rowan then, and my chest immediately tightened. Suddenly, there was no billionaire CEO sitting beside
Just Rowan. Just a man staring at something impossibly tiny and already loving it with everything he had.
I wiped beneath my eyes quickly while laughing softly through tears. “You look emotional.”
Without looking away from the screen, he answered quietly, “I’m processing.”
Both doctors laughed softly at that.

Chapter 247
A little while later, after another round of instructions, bloodwork discussions, and scheduling another appointment, Rowan helped me carefully off the bed like I was ninety years old.
I narrowed my eyes immediately. “Rowan.”
“What?”
“I can stand.”
His hand stayed firmly around my waist anyway. “I know.”
Liar.
We stepped out into the hallway a few minutes later where Theo immediately stood up from the waiting area. “Well?”
Camille shot up beside him so fast I thought she might actually tackle me. “Oh my God well?!”
Theo narrowed his eyes immediately. “…Why do you look guilty?”
Before I could even answer, Camille grabbed my arm dramatically and pulled me slightly away from the guys.
WE HA QUE
Camille ignored him completely. She leaned close toward me and whispered, “It’s a girl.”
I froze. My eyes immediately widened. “…What?”
Camille looked like she might physically explode from excitement. “They asked if we wanted to know, and Theo said we
should wait, but I physically cannot survive five more months without knowing.
From behind us, “…Camille.”
She waved him off dramatically. Then grabbed both my hands. “I want you to plan the gender reveal and baby shower.”
My eyes widened immediately. “Camille-”
“Nope. Too late. You’re doing it.”
