She hung off the man like a puppet with cut strings, completely frozen. Tears streamed wildly down her face, leaving her looking utterly pathetic.
The man had his arm wrapped tightly around her. Through the lenses of his glasses, his predatory gaze sliced into her like a blade, entirely merciless.
Alaina's heart dropped. She scrambled out of his arms, frantically wiping her tears as she stammered awkwardly, "I... I'm so sorry. Thank... thank you."
Still reeling from the shock, she instinctively crossed her arms, hugging her trembling body.
Moving with lethal efficiency, the man stripped off his trench coat and draped it over her without asking. Exuding a completely dominant, untouchable aura, his dark eyes gleamed with an unpredictable edge.
A sharp, clean scent overwhelmed her senses, and the lingering body heat trapped in the fabric felt like it was burning her skin—
She was already terrified, and his overwhelming presence only made her panic more.
"Thank you, but it's okay. I don't..."
"I don't use things others have touched," the man cut her off instantly. His voice was dangerously soft, yet it carried an absolute authority that tolerated no arguments.
She froze, mortified to see a few of her tears staining the lapel of the coat.
Just looking at the fabric, she knew this trench coat cost a fortune.
Glancing at his dark, tailored suit, it was obvious everything he wore was custom-made and incredibly expensive.
"I am so, so sorry. I completely spaced out crossing the street. Let me take it to the dry cleaners, and I'll give it back to you once it's clean," she said, her voice shaking as she tried to fix the situation.
"There's no need," the man rejected her again, his bone-chilling indifference completely natural.
"......"
Alaina stood frozen. A blur of faces she could barely remember flashed through her mind, and she couldn't stop herself from asking, "Sir, have we... met somewhere before?"
She intensely studied his flawless, chiseled features, trying to trigger a memory. She had to admit, he looked like he stepped straight out of a magazine.
