The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 122

He burst into a fit of maniacal laughter. "I'm a cripple now. Anyone can just walk all over me and treat me like garbage."

His tone was heavily laced with self-deprecation as he deliberately jerked his wheelchair away in disgust.

Alaina didn't flinch. She simply reached out and held his hand.

His skin was freezing, his joints stiff from prolonged inactivity.

But her hand was warm, and that heat slowly drove the chill from his fingertips.

"You aren't a cripple," she said, looking straight into his eyes, her words ringing with absolute certainty. "Ethan, you're just trapped for now. When you finally decide you want to stand, you will."

Ethan fell silent and ignored her.

From that day on, Alaina came into his room almost every single day.

She kept him company, chattering about interesting things happening outside, sharing stories about troubles she'd faced in the past. Even though he rarely responded, she never lost her enthusiasm.

She gave him sponge baths and helped him roll over in bed. Her touch was incredibly gentle, as if she were handling a priceless treasure, without a single trace of disgust.

He would deliberately wet the bed, just to force her to clean it up.

He threw things against the walls whenever the urge struck.

No matter how awful his tantrums were, she would just quietly sweep up the mess, then go to the kitchen to fetch him a fresh bowl of hot oatmeal.

"I made your favorite warm oatmeal. It's soft and easy to digest, just try to eat a little," she coaxed, placing the bowl on his tray table. She scooped up a spoonful, blew on it to cool it down, and held it to his lips. "You haven't eaten solid food in days. Living off IV fluids is terrible for your body."

He stubbornly kept his mouth clamped shut at first, until his eyes drifted to the bandage wrapped around Alaina's hand.

He knew that was his doing. Deep down, he had never wanted to hurt her.
