The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 151

"Even if it really comes down to dying..." She looked resolute. "I'll die at this post, but only after I finish the job."

The crowd fell completely silent, and the agitated representatives looked at each other in dismay.

Silas Summers frowned, his tone growing even heavier. "The Security Administration hires based on ability, not medical records."

He glared coldly at the crowd. "If anything goes wrong with the special research team, I take full responsibility."

The representatives' faces shifted between red and pale. Unable to utter another word of rebuttal, they could only leave resentfully.

"Dr. Rossi, my office," Silas ordered.

Alaina Rossi adjusted her emotions and followed him.

Once the door to his office closed, Silas looked at her, absolutely furious. "Didn't I tell you to stay home? Who told you to show up on your own?"

"Would hiding at home make the rumors disappear? Since I took this position, I have to face the doubts. I can't let you shoulder everything for me. This is obviously aimed at me. Someone wants to use this public opinion to force me out of this role. I won't hide behind you like a coward. I need them to know their cheap tricks won't work on me," Alaina explained indignantly.

Silas looked at her stubborn posture, his anger spiking instantly. He stared coldly at her, his tone uncompromising. "Self-righteous."

"Did you even think about how dangerous it is for you to just run over here like this?"

Alaina froze, a sudden lump forming in her throat, unable to speak from the sting of grievance.

She just didn't want him to face the pressure alone, and she didn't want him to be criticized by the entire Security Administration, yet she never expected him to blame her for it.

Silas saw her reddened eyes, and his anger, far from dissipating, flared even hotter. "You haven't remembered a single word I said."

"I remember." Alaina glared straight back at him. "Your responsibility is to ensure the team completes its mission. My safety, my everything, is just another mission to you."

"Right," she scoffed. "Why would I ever need to step up for anything? Mr. Summers is above everyone else; you don't need my meddling at all."

They were at each other's throats, the air thick with tension.
