The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 181

Silas signaled with his eyes for her to speak her mind.

She offered a small smile. "You should've settled down sooner. Nina is wonderful—she's elegant and a perfect match for your family."

Silas paused, turning his head to look at her. His dark gaze was completely serene.

"I never intend to waste my time on romantic entanglements," he said with utter seriousness. "Not then, and not now."

In the past, Alaina wouldn't have been angry hearing this; she only would have felt a profound certainty that the man standing before her was devoid of human emotion, completely detached from life itself.

Now, the words just left a bitter, aching lump in her throat.

She nodded, swallowing down a thousand unspoken words into a simple, "Understood."

Silas hesitated, the tranquil surface of his gaze rippling for a fraction of a second.

They walked in silence all the way to the front door of the house, where Silas suddenly caught her wrist.

He pulled her slightly closer, his voice dropping an octave. "Do you really understand?"

Alaina looked up, meeting his deep, predatory gaze. Her own reflection was clear in his eyes, swirling with an emotion she couldn't quite decipher.

Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly forced a lighthearted laugh. "What I meant earlier was that I thought you'd be just like Ethan. But you aren't."

"I used to think there wasn't a single man in this world who understood the concept of boundaries. Thank you for showing me otherwise. Thank you for making me feel safe back there."

Silas's gaze turned somber. It took him a long moment to speak, his voice heavily raspy. "Maybe... we should have started our partnership three years ago."

Looking at his earnest expression, her throat tightened. Her heart felt as if it were melting, bathed in a sudden rush of warmth.

She laughed. "Three years ago? I wouldn't have given you the time of day."

Unfazed, his eyes locked onto hers with unwavering certainty. "I would have found a way to make you notice me."

Alaina arched an eyebrow, playfully asking just how he planned to do that.

Silas didn't elaborate, merely masking a faint smile as he stepped inside.
