Seeing Zachary, Alaina let out a massive sigh of relief.
Instructing his men to finish clearing the area, Zachary hurried over, his expression respectful. "Ma'am, I'm sorry we're late. Are you hurt?"
Alaina waved him off, her gaze darting toward the corridor. "Where's Silas? Is he here?"
Zachary averted his eyes for a fraction of a second. "The boss ordered me to escort you back to the estate. Why don't we head home first?"
Alaina planted her feet, instantly reading between the lines. "Silas... he's in trouble, isn't he?"
When Zachary hesitated, she didn't waste a second. "Where's my phone?"
Zachary stepped outside, patted down one of the unconscious guards, and returned to hand her the device.
Alaina powered it on and pulled up a specific file. "I need this right now. How fast can you get it for me?" Seeing his obvious desperation to just get her to safety, she held her ground. "If you don't cooperate, you're only wasting time. I will sit right here and refuse to leave."
Defeated, Zachary nodded. "As soon as possible."
"And one more thing," Alaina added. "Leave Valerie where she is. Keep her waiting in the main hall."
"Understood," Zachary said, rushing out.
Alaina waited in the room.
She didn't move until Zachary returned with the requested item.
Clutching a small box filled with white powder, Alaina marched into the main hall. Just as expected, Valerie was sitting rigidly by the altar, still chanting her meditations.
