The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 286

The guards shoved Alaina and Zachary forward. The tension in the air was thick and deadly.

Alaina shot Zachary a frantic look. He had sworn this was all part of Silas’s master plan, but this felt horribly wrong.

The Archmage took a slow, deliberate step forward, his voice a raspy hiss. "How do you prefer to be addressed? Lead Rossi, Dr. Rossi... or Mrs. Summers?"

Alaina’s heart plummeted as a wave of dread washed over her. She locked eyes with him, her throat tight. "Where is Silas? Where is he?"

"It’s a tragedy, really," The Archmage sighed, dripping with mockery. "The boy was too stubborn for his own good. He absolutely refused to cooperate. Refused to submit."

He paused, a vicious glint in his eye as he delivered the fatal blow. "Since he couldn't be reasoned with, he was useless to me. I had to put him out of his misery."

"He’s dead."

Those two words hit her like a freight train, completely shattering the ground beneath her feet.

"Impossible," she breathed, refusing to accept it.

The Archmage chuckled darkly. "Why would I lie? If Silas were still alive, do you really think I'd be standing right here?"

"You wouldn't kill him. You still need whatever it is he has," Alaina challenged fiercely.

He only laughed louder. "What I want most is Project Aegis. Keeping you alive as my prisoner is all I need for that. As for Silas, it’s a pity, but his death buys me peace of mind. A man shouldn't be too greedy. Holding the core secrets of the Aegis-001 Chip is more than enough for me."

Alaina froze.

The howling wind seemed to stop. The world faded away, leaving only a hollow, excruciating pain in her chest that gnawed at her very soul.

Just an hour ago, she had been furious at him. She had been relieved that he was brilliant enough to stage this elaborate trap and keep himself safe. Now, everything had crumbled into a waking nightmare.

Her eyes burned, and hot tears spilled over her lashes, landing like drops of ice against her skin.
