The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 92

Evelyn's voice instantly shifted, complaining to Arthur Rossi in the background.

"This is all your fault. You forced me to lie, and look what happened. I told you Alaina would see right through it."

The next second, Arthur's booming voice came through the receiver. "Sweetheart, it's Saturday tomorrow, come home for a visit. Remember what I said last time? You have to listen to your old man. Since things are officially over with the Harrington boy, you need to come back. The candidates I've picked out for you this time are the elite of the elite. It's settled! I'll roast a chicken and wait for you."

He hung up before she could even get a word in.

Alaina stared at her phone, thoroughly exasperated.

Silas pocketed his own phone and cast a cool, sideways glance at her. "You didn't tell your family?"

Alaina froze. It was all her dad's fault for speaking so loudly.

She hadn't planned on telling them at all.

They were getting divorced in two years anyway. She refused to put her father through the trauma of another broken marriage.

"I'll handle it," she replied smoothly. "I won't cause you any extra trouble."

Noticing that the car was heading back into the city limits, she quickly added, "Please just drop me off at the Security Administration. I still have work to finish."

Silas ignored her and spoke directly to Morris, the driver. "Head home as planned."

Alaina blinked, completely bewildered.

Silas looked at her, his expression unreadable. "A person needs self-awareness. Managing your health is your top priority right now."

Alaina was inexplicably speechless.

Of course she knew she needed to take care of her body. She wasn't an idiot.

She only wanted to avoid going home so she could escape his great-aunt's suffocating surveillance and stop being a burden to him.

"There's no need to act tonight," Silas said, as if reading her mind. "Aunt Rosemary went out with some old friends this afternoon. She won't be coming back tonight."

Alaina nodded, relieved that she could finally get a good night's sleep without being watched.
